Carriage Hill MetroPark Farm, Dayton, Ohio. Reports from the Field by Joel McCarty. Monday, September 11, 2006. This week in Dayton, we're repairing a barn that came from a few miles away. The barn was mostly of yellow poplar, in a framing pattern consistent with the mid-19th century. We have a good crew (of 15) a beautiful spot to work, and all the cheerfully offered resources of the Carriage Hill MetroPark Farm staff and volunteers, so we should be good to go. It remained foggy well into mid-morning. We put up the gin pole with a minimum of fuss, using four Jersey Barriers for back anchors and seemingly miles of high-tech rope, the crooked pole (reinforced by a poplar 4x5 at the top), and a modified truck rim for a base plate. We continue to dine like kings with the our friends among the interpretive and support staff at the Park. 천사의 도시, 동양의 베니스라는 칭송보다 Crazy City라는 표현이 더 어울릴 것 같은 방콕. 그 곳의 다양함을 한마디로 표현하기는 불가능해 보인다. 방콕은 카오산 로드와 20밧짜리 팟타이가 방콕의 전부가 아니라는 것을 말해 주고 싶었다. 인간이 얼마나 순수하게 살아갈 수 있나 보여주는 땅. 비록 그곳이 지상 낙원인 샹그릴라는 아니더라도 인간과 자연이 조화를 이루며 어떻게 살아 갈 수 있는지를 보여주기에 우리들은 여전히 그곳, 티벳을 꿈꾸는지도 모른다. 인천에서 타이베이까지 비행기로 2시간 30분, 남한 크기의 약 40% 크기인 대만은 가깝고 넓지 않아 가볍게 다녀오기 좋은 곳이다. 타이베이와 근교 명소를 두루 둘러보는 것도 좋고 온천, 천혜의 자연 환경 등 테마를 정하여 여행하는 것도 좋다. 캄보디아는 이제 새로운 나라로 태어나려 하고 있다. 프랑스 식민지배에 이어서 30년 가까운 근대사의 전쟁과 크메르 루즈의 집권으로 인해 캄보디아는 세계 현대사에서 아픈 역사를 간직하고 있는 나라다.
