Technical thoughts of a coffee addicted developer. Google Reader Duplicate Item Improvement. January 27, 2008. One of the features that I love about RSS, is that it allows users to keep their finger on the pulse of certain topics very easily. As some people may know, I quite like the Python web framework Django. I recently read an article by James Holderness about detecting duplicate content within an RSS feed. Back to the improvement, which is related to the information that James provided. When I s...

August 10, 2006. State legislature repeals Single Business Tax. 8212; tgagne @ 10:24 am. From Senator Gilda Jacobs’ office. Replacement: To Be Determined . . . Senate Majority Leader Ken Sikkema (R-Wyoming) compared the process to one that took place in the early 1990s to drastically reduce property taxes used for education under Proposal A. Senate Democrats warned that a new business tax could upset sectors of the business community that may see higher taxes, and/or place new tax burdens on individuals.

Rational Religion: January 2007

A consideration of Christianity without appealing to emotions. Monday, January 22, 2007. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16. I thank God that I baptized none of you . 1st Corinthian. The two verses quoted above are two of the reasons I resisted baptism until well into my adult life. The main reason had more to do with the question "Why bother? But more about that later. You would think that a teacher of Paul's stature would be quite emp...

A consideration of Christianity without appealing to emotions. Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Faith the Hard Way. And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think this is one of my favorite passages about faith because it doesn't fit into any popular concept of faith. Let's hit the highlights. After Jesus is...

Rational Religion: December 2006
http://rreligion.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
A consideration of Christianity without appealing to emotions. Sunday, December 31, 2006. Many Christians have blogs. Some of them are pastors. In my experience, pastors' blogs are the most tedious and least interesting to read. I frequently read blogs of other Christians looking for new understandings; different ways of seeing God and His interaction with creation. Why is it that those who are, theoretically, trained to communicate spiritual truth are (by my measure) the most ineffective? I am not refer...

Rational Religion: September 2006

A consideration of Christianity without appealing to emotions. Friday, September 08, 2006. I didn't write what follows, but it is well worth reading. From C.S. Lewis' "God in the Dock". Now this is obviously great fun; but it has not always been noticed that there is a bill to pay for it. There are two questions that people who say this kind of thing ought to be asked. The first is, are all thoughts thus tainted at the source, or only some? Would you rather be a lunatic than a mystic? The God I Want.

Rational Religion: June 2006

A consideration of Christianity without appealing to emotions. Tuesday, June 20, 2006. In the long run the answer to all those who object to the doctrine of hell is itself a question, 'What are you asking God to do? To wipe out their past sins and, at all costs, to give them a fresh start, smoothing every difficulty and offering every miraculous help? But He has done so, on Calvary. To forgive them? They will not be forgiven. To let them alone? Alas, I am afraid that is what He does.". However, when it c...
