My Life At The Movies: Rush (2013) - Ron Howard
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2013/10/rush-2013-ron-howard.html
Monday, 7 October 2013. Rush (2013) - Ron Howard. The best (and I use that word in the widest most general sense) racing film ever made is John Frankenheimer’s Grand Prix. So why does this work where Grand Prix. All failed so badly? Well for starters it’s scripted by Peter Morgan who of course wrote the aces screenplays for The Queen. And The Damned United. As well as Frost/Nixon. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Site For Sore Eyes. Now some of these reviews are bound to be reminiscent of that revie...

My Life At The Movies: Carry on Screaming! (1966) - Gerald Thomas
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2010/11/carry-on-screaming-1966-gerald-thomas.html
Saturday, 20 November 2010. 1966) - Gerald Thomas. So for some reason I've been going through a bit of Carry On phase this year. This is the sixth one I've seen this month. Not the best of the series it has to be said, although not the worst either. After all it's the only Carry On to have a horror theme, with a plot reminiscent (for that read half inched) of that Vincent Price camp classic House of Wax. On paper that actually sounds quite good, so why wasn't it? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Think...

My Life At The Movies: Boo (1932) - Albert DeMond
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2010/12/boo-1932-albert-demond.html
Thursday, 16 December 2010. Boo (1932) - Albert DeMond. Oh dear, some of the rubbish I watch does amaze me sometimes. Other times I feel like hanging my head in shame. In this instance I guess it falls somewhere in between. Boo. Is cobbled together using footage from Nosferatu. Over this DeMond has seen fit to add what he obviously thinks are witty remarks, which are narrated by one Morton Lowry (his only claim to fame as far as moving pictures go). It's like an early version of What's Up, Tiger Lily?

My Life At The Movies: Lawrence of Belgravia (2011) - Paul Kelly
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2014/04/lawrence-of-belgravia-2011-paul-kelly.html
Friday, 18 April 2014. Lawrence of Belgravia (2011) - Paul Kelly. Paul Kelly’s remarkable documentary, Lawrence of Belgravia. I’ve been trying to see this documentary for years, and have only just managed to do so. Being a huge Felt (and Lawrence) fan, I was worried that I’d built up what could have been unattainable expectations. Yet Lawrence of Belgravia. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Life At The Movies: Big Trouble in Little China (1986) - John Carpenter
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2011/04/big-trouble-in-little-china-1986-john.html
Wednesday, 20 April 2011. Big Trouble in Little China (1986) - John Carpenter. I was never a fan of this back when it first came out. Simply put it's one of those films that can't decide what it wants to be, is it a parody of martial arts flicks, a comedy, a horror or a gung ho 80s actioner? The truth is it's all of the above duking it out in a film that's madder than Ghostbusters. And wouldn't really let up with a few exceptions ( Prince of Darkness. In the Mouth of Madness. My Life At The Movies: Thursday's Children (1954) - Lindsay Anderson
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2013/09/thursdays-children-1954-lindsay-anderson.html
Sunday, 15 September 2013. Thursday's Children (1954) - Lindsay Anderson. Along with most Brits of a certain age I have a special place in my heart for Lindsay Anderson. Film critic, director, and most importantly of all the individual that gave British film a much needed kick up the arse back in the mid 50s as the founding father of the Free Cinema movement. He didn’t make all that many films, but when he did they were always, always,. Worth seeing. However, as much as I adore If. I’ll never find ...

My Life At The Movies: The African Queen (1951) - John Huston
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2011/02/african-queen-1951-john-huston.html
Sunday, 20 February 2011. The African Queen (1951) - John Huston. Of course this is one of those films that everyone has seen time and time again, a timeless classic that no true film fan would get to almost forty without seeing, right? Um, well everyone it would seem except me. This is just one of the many so called classics that I've never seen. Not that I haven't wanted to, it just happened that our paths haven't crossed until now. The same goes for Gone With the Wind. It's not all that surprising is ...

My Life At The Movies: Metalhead (2013) - Ragnar Bragason
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2014/03/metalhead-2013-ragnar-bragason.html
Saturday, 1 March 2014. Metalhead (2013) - Ragnar Bragason. Adolescence isn’t easy. We’ve all seen plenty of films that tell us that, from James Dean fighting against whatever was in front of him in Rebel Without A Cause. Through to John Bender sticking it to the man (well Mr. Vernon) in The Breakfast Club. All the way up to Lukas Moodysson’s seminal Fucking Åmal. Being a teen isn’t easy. Even in Iceland it would seem. That’s what Metalhead. Is about, along with a few other things. See, for that alone th...

My Life At The Movies: Black Swan (2010) - Darren Aronofsky
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2011/03/black-swan-2010-darren-aronofsky.html
Thursday, 17 March 2011. Black Swan (2010) - Darren Aronofsky. It was nice to be able go into this film cold, all I knew about it was that it was directed by Aronofsky which subsequently meant that the music was by Clint Mansell, starred Natalie Portman and was about ballet. Except of course it's as much about ballet as Deliverance. It's just that the ballet is a backdrop for deeper more adult themes. Such as just how far is an artist prepared to go in order to achieve perfection? So quite a lot to pack ...

My Life At The Movies: Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2008) - Sacha Gervasi
http://peoplearecrying.blogspot.com/2011/08/anvil-story-of-anvil-2008-sacha-gervasi.html
Saturday, 20 August 2011. The Story of Anvil (2008) - Sacha Gervasi. The point I'm trying to make here is that just like the Metallica documentary before it, a love of the music isn't essential. Now if you're thinking this is all a bit This is Spinal Tap. Far better British brother Bad. As much as for Kerrang! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Site For Sore Eyes. So here's the thing. I watch films, a lot of films, normally between three to four hundred per year. My life for better or for wors...Now s...
