nb Poppy: November 2011
http://nbpoppy.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
An everyday tale of our life as liveaboards on our narrowboat with our cats Soona and Sid. Sunday, 13 November 2011. Yesterday we wanted to check out the mooring situation north of Chirk so we walked over the aqueduct, through the tunnel and through the cutting as far as the marina. View from the aqueduct across the valley under the railway viaduct,. The mist is just rising off the trees. The Chirk Aqueduct is the 'other' aqueduct's poor relation but we like it. The imposing Chirk Tunnel entrance. A frea...

An everyday tale of our life as liveaboards on our narrowboat with our cats Soona and Sid. Saturday, 31 March 2012. Last Thursday we left the countryside behind and cruised into Greater Manchester, we had booked into Stretford Marina for a long weekend and it was just as well we'd booked as being a small marina it was just about full, it's handy to visit Bek and family who live just round the corner and extremely reasonable at £5 a night inc electric. On Thursday night. Or The Tank as the locals call it).

An everyday tale of our life as liveaboards on our narrowboat with our cats Soona and Sid. Thursday, 30 June 2011. Just one of those weeks. After a 7.30am start we got to Reading Tesco moorings for 9am and by 10am I was collecting my repeat prescription from the Post Office, so far so good but when I got to Boots I found a problem with the script as one of my regular meds wasn't on the list and I had taken my last tablet in the morning ( cutting it fine, I know! I went to the NHS walk in centre as. I thi...

An everyday tale of our life as liveaboards on our narrowboat with our cats Soona and Sid. Sunday, 31 July 2011. Though I have since read somewhere that it has been practice for years as due to leaking lock walls the lock cottages basements would flood if locks left full. Again we had the train noise but it does seem to ease off during the night or else I was so whacked I'd have slept through anything. So Friday we got cracking at 8am determined to find a spot for the weekend, after a couple of locks we ...

An everyday tale of our life as liveaboards on our narrowboat with our cats Soona and Sid. Friday, 23 September 2011. Time to move on, the cupboards need restocking so we were Tamworth bound,. Leaving our mooring on a glorious morning. The 1st day of Autumn and the leaves are definitely on the turn. Looking back at the M42, we have driven over it many times,. It's nice to be cruising under it this time. The Glascote locks were busy, no water wasted as it was one up one down. Friday, September 23, 2011.

Narrowboat: The Green Man.: Samhain.
http://nbthegreenman.blogspot.com/2012/11/samhain.html
This is always a special time for us. The last few years have seen a muted observance of the occasion due to my poor health but since I am on the mend we decided it was about time to return to our old ways of marking Samhain. We decorated the inside of the boat with foliage of Autumnal hues:. Can you see the outline of a horse in there? Rob made a pumpkin scarecrow to scare our guests:. Rob loves Pumpkin Man. We didn't really make everyone sit in the dark *cough*. 19 November 2012 at 19:05. Abingdon Trad...

Goodbye, dearest Lewsey. 28022008 - 07.09.2010. You will always be loved and will never be forgotten. Just, please, dear girl, promise not to pick any more fights with cars in the next world. We miss you terribly, already. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Valonia lives with her Morris dancing husband and cat-who-thinks-she's-human on a narrowboat on the Thames. She makes boating look difficult and constantly proves that gravity favours the unco-ordinated. View my complete profile. The old blog of The Green Man.

Narrowboat: The Green Man.: April 2013
http://nbthegreenman.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Coming to an end. I know my posts have been sporadic for a long while now but it's time to start to wind this blog and boat down. We are moving on. And we're getting fatter. It's been years in the planning - a home that's just a teeny-weeny bit wider than a corridor. And so. We're building a new boat. A fat boat. I've heard rumours how unacceptable a wide beam narrowboat can be - our neighbours are often blanked by their narrower counterparts as they traverse the river - but why? And how could I refuse?

Narrowboat: The Green Man.: May 2013
http://nbthegreenman.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
And so the reminiscing begins. I threatened in my last post that I'd start reviewing our life aboard this boat and thought I better honour that promise. This post comes from a blog I wrote before this one was created specifically for our boat life. We were on our way back from having our hull blackened at Tooley's Boatyard in Banbury, July 24th 2006. We had not long left Banbury when the sky began to darken:. As soon as we entered the lock, and before we knew what was happening, the storm was upon us....

Job #3 involved a lot of swearing and some falling over. No, it wasn’t fixing the hot water. The heater has been sent away to a Mikuni borstal in Southampton where it will be. Prodded with a stic. Ok, so it didn’t quite go according to plan. The lorry arrived eventually after getting lost on the way to our pub. I pointed at the tiny marina and pulled an expression that I hoped conveyed the message of “does this look like a pub to you? It was too bloody heavy for me to lift. Six hours later the hubby arri...
