Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Gay Revolution by Marcus Miller, ePub, download. My rating: 5 of 5 stars. Download this book here. Five stars, it's not The Grapes of Wrath. But for gay pulp subtitled "A Pleasure Reader" it's as good as it can get. I first heard of this book when it appeared in Pulp Friction: Uncovering the Golden Age of Gay Male Pulps. Some of the pulpy aspects of the book ratcheted up the plot, making it perhaps less relatable to today's audience. Why were all the suddenly gay people all...

Toronto Steam Bath Uncovered As Den For Unnatural Vice! On a warm spring evening last week a FLASH reporter penetrated into a vice den the like of which is probably not to be found this side of Algiers' Casbah or the brimstone engulfed cities of the Biblical plain — Sodom and Gomorrah! There is accommodation for ...

Friday, May 23, 2014. The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff. My rating: 3 of 5 stars. Matt Czuchry plays the lead well enough but I didn’t really buy his mother. Also although the movie drops most of Ann Eliza’s story, it also drops many characters from the book too, including the hotel boyfriend and the runaway kid. There doesn’t seem to be enough left to hold attention. That being said with the story stripped down the reveal has more impact than it does in the book. View all my reviews. Links to this post.

Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Flight by Ed Berger. My rating: 4 of 5 stars. A good book that I bought and read quickly. First of all I should say this book was never going to get five stars from me as I hate books where gay men try going straight. It seems to let the side down and I was cringing several times while reading this book. I broke a tooth last night and I think it was caused by reading this book and grinding my teeth. Remembrance of Patients Past: Patient Life at the Toronto Hospital for the Insane, 1870-1940. My rating: 3 of 5 stars. There's a saying from the TV show Designing Women that people in the North try and hide their crazy people away, while people in the South sit them on the porch and put them on display. The majority of this book concerns the northern philosophy. Writing ...

Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Assuming the Position: A Memoir of Hustling by Rick Whitaker. Assuming the Position: A Memoir of Hustling. My rating: 2 of 5 stars. Ugh Pretentious, short, filled with unnecessary quotes from long dead authors in the public domain. The best line in the book I thought was went he went to a drug counsellor and said he was addicted to meth and doing it twice a day. The drug counsellor says So? How's that working for you? Your eyes will be rolling as you read. View all my reviews.
