Salem to Sydney
http://sydney2salem.blogspot.com/2015/05/hummus-great-gateway-food-today-is.html
Wednesday, 13 May 2015. Hummus: 'the great gateway food'. Today is international hummus day! I will make some hummus to mark this important celebration. Hummus is easy to make, healthy, cheap, tasty and most importantly, it’s flexible! As I saw written today somewhere on the interwebs, hummus is the gateway food to your fridge. Mmmmm ‘what can I eat with this hummus today? 8217; is a regular question in our household. But wait! Without even realising it. Best to make it yourself. 1 cup of dried chickpeas.

Salem to Sydney: Leaving Iraq
http://sydney2salem.blogspot.com/2013/07/leaving-iraq.html
Tuesday, 30 July 2013. Not my image but gives you an idea of Sulayminyah. Image by P O from Panaramio.com. Amna Suraka Museum "Red Intelligence Museum". Former Ba'ath intelligence headquarters and prison where many innocent Kurds, including women and children were tortured and killed. Now a very eerie museum. Some very realistic models of torture methods. The capital, Erbil. Heavy My sensible self told me that I should have left him then and there, but my curiousity got the better of me. The river that f...

Salem to Sydney: October 2011
http://sydney2salem.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Friday, 28 October 2011. Salem sweeps song contest! In other news, I've recently held my first aussie rules training with my older boys. After a bit of hesitation - "Miss Ella, can we just play normal. Football". I was pleasantly surprised by their kicking and handballing skills. Next training we're going to work on marking which will undoubtedly be a lot of fun. I don't want to jump the gun here, but I have a feeling that I may just produce the best AFL team Palestine has ever seen! Today I rode through...

http://sydney2salem.blogspot.com/2012/08/mediterranean-meanderings.html
Tuesday, 14 August 2012. A few days ago marked two months since I stepped off the plane in Istanbul. It's strange for me to think I've been here for that long. It still only feels like yesterday that I was taking in all the sights and sounds of crazy Istanbul. So where have I been and what have I been doing since then? Cenk L and Ersin R. Assistant Assistant Director L and Assistant Director R. Exploring the ancient Lycian city of Kaunos, near Dalyan. Devrim trying to play the drums. View from the balcony.

Monday, 30 April 2012. 3rd Annual Palestinian Fun Run. Last weekend some friends and I decided to participate in the 3. My team - the Nabulsi Ninjas. Waiting to start the race. Running/walking through Birzeit village. We don't like hills. I estimated around 1000 people, maybe more, participating in the race plus many more volunteers and spectators. It was great to see people of all ages and backgrounds participating. I think the 2. Placed female was a young girl who looked about 7 years old. There we...

Salem to Sydney: December 2011
http://sydney2salem.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Monday, 19 December 2011. How can you possibly think this thing is scary? But for the kids in Salem (and most of Palestine I would imagine), guns are unfortunately a part of everyday life. The occupation has meant kids have grown up around guns. This is the sort of guns the IOF carry to non-violent protests. Tuesday, 13 December 2011. Petra and border crossings. The siq - the entrance to Petra. This lookout is appropriately termed - 'The End of the World'. What do your parents do? If not, what do you do ...

Thursday, 14 June 2012. From Istanbul to Sydney. WARNING: This blog is now turning into more of a travel and experiences on-the-road type blog rather than 'life in Palestine'. Salem to Sydney: September 2012
http://sydney2salem.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Monday, 3 September 2012. For a country I knew next to nothing about before arriving, I’m surprised at how much I’ve enjoyed Georgia. Cheap and delicious food, cheap beer and wine, generous and friendly people and above all, amazing landscapes. What’s more to like? Traditional Georgian culture is still thriving, partly because a large proportion of the population still lives in rural areas. To stay there for 4 months no matter what. Why on earth would she choose do that? Giorgi and his cat. For instance,...

Salem to Sydney: July 2012
http://sydney2salem.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 10 July 2012. 5 hard lessons of organic farming: Kargicak Valley, Turkey. This is me being sensible. This is the consequences of my stupidity. 2 Take the summer Siesta seriously. Siesta = a short nap taken in the afternoon. The structure to the right is where siestas are supposed to take place. This is where my siestas took place - can't really blame me, can you? 3 Don’t try to plough weeds to the beat of music…it only results in blood. 5 Don’t float in the sea for longer than 10 minutes. If you...
