Battle of Vassar Hill. Sharing information about the Stasey family from Hannibal. We flew to St. Louis and drove to Hannibal, arriving at Garth Woodside Mansion B&B in the early afternoon. We attended the Mark Twain Festival down town, serendipitously in progress, enjoying local artists and crafts people. We ate at the Planters’ Café on Main Street, and went through some of the museums and amusements. We found cousin Steve Ayers’ coffee shop and retail store. His pottery business is one street west.

The rural school in Macon County, Missouri, seven miles south of Anabel, called Bohannon School, was named for the donor of the land on which it was located. The school house stood on the south side of what is now called Mahogany Street, slightly less than one mile east from the intersection with county road V.

Battle of Vassar Hill. Sharing information about the Stasey family from Hannibal. Thomas Hart Benton Stasey is shown above (right) with two unnamed compatriots. They are, presumably, members of "Stasey's Rangers.". Thomas Hart Benton Stasey (hereafter referred to as THBS) was fatally wounded at the battle of Pierce’s Mill in Scotland County, Missouri, on July 18, 1862, at a point on the Fabius River near the Keokuk and Western Railway. The Union troops were victorious but suffered severe casualties.

Tuesday, February 12, 2013. Our Weekend and What We Came Home To! Sunday morning we got up at 7am again and packed the car up said goodbye to Drew's parents. I was so thankful that they let us come up and stay at there house and for everything and we do miss them very much. That morning we met my son and grandkids in Shawano for breakfast.
