The Panopticon: Meet Dolores

http://the-panopticon.blogspot.com/2006/03/meet-dolores.html

Friday, March 10, 2006. You can't learn to spin without fiber, so a couple of weeks ago I sent away to an online operation specializing in such things and ordered two pounds of Romney roving. I've heard from so many people that Romney is a good beginner's wool that I decided to go with it. Last night after work I was kntting on the Regicide Scarf. Absolutely," I said. A few minutes later, there was a knock at the door. And then I opened the door, and then I saw this. Hi," said the sheep. Hello," I said.

The Panopticon: A Few Choice Words from Seattle/Tacoma Airport

http://the-panopticon.blogspot.com/2010/03/few-choice-words-from-seattletacoma.html

Monday, March 29, 2010. A Few Choice Words from Seattle/Tacoma Airport. For the parents of the dozens of little children on spring break who keep sneezing and coughing on me. Whatever I catch from those ill-bred little bastards, I hope you catch double. For the man who "forgot about" the hacksaw blade in his carry-on bag. Pray tell, what is the weather like on the planet from which you come? Putting knitting needles in your carry-on is rather pointless when you pack all your yarn in your checked bag.

The Panopticon: Moments at Madrona

http://the-panopticon.blogspot.com/2011/02/moments-at-madrona.html

Saturday, February 19, 2011. It has taken me fully a week to recover from the Madrona Fiber Arts Winter Retreat. It may be premature to speak of "full" recovery. I may never recover fully. I know I have been changed by the experience. I'm not sure I want to change back. Herewith, a small selection of the memories (sweet) and the photographs (otherwise). Funny Moment: Meet Faye. The lady in question was Michelle, and Michelle's guide was Faye. Faye, on the other hand, hadn't brought a camera. She sett...

The Panopticon: Strangers on a Train

http://the-panopticon.blogspot.com/2009/03/strangers-on-train.html

Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Strangers on a Train. Typing this morning from LaCrosse, Wisconsin. I'm here to speak tonight at the town's annual Knit in Public Day. As the place is just. Close enough to Chicago to make it practicable, I came up by train. The most interesting conversation was with a woman who looked to be in her early twenties, and who began our dialogue in the usual manner. I've never seen a man knitting before.". She blinked. "Well, no. I mean, it's something women. So was I.". She laughed...

Mighty Distractible: May 2014

http://mightydistractible.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Allergies, Be Damned! The smell of lilacs is like the nectar of the gods. The sad thing is, it only lasts about a week. So, what is one to do? Well, in my case, I take a trip to Madison's Arboretum and stick my face in blooming lilacs for about an hour and a half. By the time I'm done, I've gotten my lilac fix (and I've sneezed my head off) and don't feel quite as bad when the blooms start to brown and drop. So, let's start with the Arboretum. My friend didn't sneeze as much as me. Blue skies and sun!

Mighty Distractible: 3 Brothers

http://mightydistractible.blogspot.com/2014/06/3-brothers.html

If you've ever been to Milwaukee and not eaten at 3 Brothers. Restaurant.it is a tragedy. You can get a meal there that rivals the best restaurants anywhere here or across the ocean. The menu has a selection of Serbian dishes for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. Granted, the menu leans heavier on the meat side, but my vegetarian family gets along there just fine. The dregs of our Serbian salad. The original bar with Schlitz globe. Years and years ago, this location was actually a Schlitz. I would love ...

Adventures in Knitting: October 2004

http://lisalmt.blogspot.com/2004_10_01_archive.html

I started knitting the end of September 2004 because some of my friends were (and still are) having such a great time doing it. Turns out it's a fabulous way to pass time while waiting for some wee little embryo to implant and grow. Now knitting is my official drug of choice. Welcome to my bragging place. 52 Weeks, 52 Hats: Tam C

http://52weeks52hats.blogspot.com/2011/01/tam-c.html

52 Weeks, 52 Hats. Thursday, January 6, 2011. It's Friday, so that must mean it's time to roll out the latest installment of 52 hats. Queue the soundtrack of trumpets blaring, fireworks bursting, and crowds going wild. This is #5, so I'm nearly 10% done! Not that there's any turning back at this point- knitting 47 more hats is my official 2011 Knitolution, and I risk severe shunning by my fellow knitters if I fail to deliver. a fate worse than death, it seems. Seems as though I'm keeping this one. Techni...

52 Weeks, 52 Hats: 1840 Nightcap

http://52weeks52hats.blogspot.com/2011/11/1840-nightcap.html

52 Weeks, 52 Hats. Tuesday, November 8, 2011. I had a productive, fun-filled, and restful weekend, so I think I'm ready to face hat 47:. Let's just try it on. I know I have a tiny head, but this is ridiculous. SO, for the purposes of 52 hats, I'm going to consider this done. Come December 1st, I'm ripping it out to start anew- should have plenty of time to finish before Christmas. right? Malabrigo Sock, which, in my opinion, is lace weight. It is. 52 Weeks, 52 Hats. Monday, December 5, 2011. We went to the sea once again. I feel so lucky that it's only a short drive- or walk! I'm also lucky to have a husband who takes fantastic pictures. Cashmere. I can't describe how impossibly soft this yarn is- I have felt cashmere before, but this is. beyond. And it costs less per ounce than white truffles or beluga caviar, with the added bonus that you don't have. To eat it. Though you may want to- I won't judge. From the Purl Bee. 52 Weeks, 52 Hats: Setesdal Love Hat

http://52weeks52hats.blogspot.com/2011/04/setesdal-love-hat.html

52 Weeks, 52 Hats. Friday, April 8, 2011. I finally finished my fourth Quince hat yesterday. It's been a WIP since February 28th, and to call it a huge pain in the ass is only a slight overstatement. Luckily, the final product justifies the effort:. Sadly, it's still cold enough outside to require a hat. I've actually made this hat twice- the first time it was unreasonably large. I know at least one person who wants this hat- me! Quince and Co. Chickadee- oh, how I love this yarn! April 8, 2011 at 9:32 PM.
