IslandScribbles: December 2010
http://islandscribbles.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 10, 2010. Excuse me – do you have sawfish saws? Yes, what have I been doing with the sawfish saws and why am I stealing bits of sturgeon from museums? One of the projects I’m working on had me contacting all sorts of museums across the country saying: Excuse me sir, do you have sawfishsaws? May I have part of your sawfishsaw? I’m looking to isolate DNA from sawfishsaws. About where they came from and what they are. Wednesday, December 8, 2010. I like Christmas for lots of reasons. Of pea...

IslandScribbles: Hibernating
http://islandscribbles.blogspot.com/2011/03/hibernating.html
Monday, March 7, 2011. After getting out and in of New York between snow storms to visit Germany for Christmas I went into hibernation for the winter. Between being hit by multiple massive snow storms (causing a lot of work tunneling out of the house.), starting new projects in the lab and the semester kicking off with lots of class work not too much has happened. IslandScribbles: April 2010
http://islandscribbles.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Dear Stony Brook University. I mean really, what were you thinking? Dear Stony Brook University,. I really appreciate the fact that you are continuously working towards a bigger, better, brighter, more beautiful campus. But let me tell you something my mother taught me a long time ago. One project at a time. Finish one, then start another. You do realize that the reason your workmen are honking at cyclists on the streets is because we can no longer get through the bike paths?

IslandScribbles: June 2010
http://islandscribbles.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 29, 2010. How moving to my "native country" suddenly made me German. It recently occurred to me that Sunday is the 4th of July and general convention dictates that I should have plans for the 4th of July. I don't think it matters what kind of plans - just that they exist and somehow make this day different from all others. They usually look confused for a minute or two. Maybe what bothers me more, is the fact that they're are so willing to restrict themselves to their own little box - forge...

Sunday, December 5, 2010. The issue of (un)locked doors. The “AllHands” email in our department is constant source of entertainment. Lately there’s been a whole series of emails, forwarded emails, crossed-emails and email parts going around regarding unlocked doors at night. Real drama, about real life issues – seriously, who needs reality TV? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). On Land, a Lake is what an Island is in the Ocean. IslandScribbles: May 2010
http://islandscribbles.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 22, 2010. I bake and deliver – on wheels! The other day in a tragic incident my bike’s back wheel went completely flat. Back wheels are always a wee bit tricky and unfortunately I don’t have the appropriate tools at the moment either. So I walked my bike to the bike shop and then ventured on to take care of various errands and classes and lab and stuff. She laughed and said, yeah – you even deliver on wheels! IslandScribbles: I like Christmas for lots of reasons...
http://islandscribbles.blogspot.com/2010/12/i-like-christmas-for-lots-of-reasons.html
Wednesday, December 8, 2010. I like Christmas for lots of reasons. While I enjoy hot chocolate, gingerbread and Christmas Carols, the main reason I like Christmas is because it's Christmas. I heard the bells on Christmas Day. Their old, familiar carols play,. And wild and sweet. Of peace on earth, good-will to men! And thought how, as the day had come,. The belfries of all Christendom. Of peace on earth, good-will to men! Till, ringing, singing on its way. The world revolved from night to day,. As I obse...
