Software engineering, general projects. Thursday, 21 March 2013. Embarking on a big one! Approximately 4 weeks before we embark on one hell of a big adventure with Isobel Perrin. My mind is starting to wonder, what the hell am I going to do if I cant write any code for 6 months! I mean.no code, no IDE, no Java, no JavaScript, no AngularJS, no morning standup, no banter with the team, no late night hacking, no diagrams, no mailing lists.the list goes on.it's going to be a challenge! Software engineering, general projects. Sunday, 15 April 2012. Various Methods to Print PDF's from Java. Than it is a science. There are so many factors which will effect the quality and ease of printing a document that it usually is a time consuming task to get it correct and from experience compromises usually have to be taken. The Printer: There are thousands of printers out there, each one may handle spooling and a document different. Print colour profiles can change from printer to printer. Below are...

Morgan-Design - Software Engineering and Tech News: Reloadable Application Properties with Spring 3.1, Java 7 and Google Guava
http://www.morgan-design.com/2012/08/reloadable-application-properties-with.html
Software engineering, general projects. Wednesday, 8 August 2012. Reloadable Application Properties with Spring 3.1, Java 7 and Google Guava. One thing I have always wanted to achieve is the ability to have a property re-load itself if the properties file ever is changed, although this may seem dangerous it does mean that an application wont need to be bounced in order for a new property to take effect (in theory). One of the great new API's in Java 7 is the WatchService. From the Java Doc:. Annotation&#...

Morgan-Design - Software Engineering and Tech News: January 2012
http://www.morgan-design.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Software engineering, general projects. Sunday, 8 January 2012. Ramblings and the monster TODO.java. What is best way to sell an Android Application? Should I sell the application only on the official Google Market place or use other providers such as Amazon etc? Is this easily achievable, manageable, what are the common deployment processes and practices? Do I create a trial version and a full version? This seems to be very common, does it not mean you have to maintain two copies of an application?

Morgan-Design - Software Engineering and Tech News: Upgrading Android Databases and ORMLite
http://www.morgan-design.com/2011/11/upgrading-android-databases-using.html
Software engineering, general projects. Wednesday, 9 November 2011. Upgrading Android Databases and ORMLite. Long been an advocate of ORMLite. Its easy to use, light weight and relatively feature full. One of the biggest headaches I run into when creating Android application is how to nicely implement some sort of upgrade strategy for database migrations. Alter table, new column etc. 2) Deprecate the old. Remove it from my queries, domain objects, ORM objects, stop using it! 3) Next release, clean up.
