The Urban Gardener

Thursday, October 23, 2014. Grow vegetables for the flowers. When was the last time that you looked at a vegetable plant and sighed in delight over its blooms? Er did you ever notice the blooms? For instance, this okra bloom. The way the okra (ladies fingers / bhendi) blooms pale golden and so prolifically, especially in the tropics, could easily make it a favourite. Here's a closer look. Now do you see what I mean? This one is so very eye-catching, isn't it? But just look at it. Now picture a canopy...

The Urban Gardener: Song of the bird-bath

http://the-urban-gardener.blogspot.com/2014/06/song-of-bird-bath.html

Friday, June 27, 2014. Song of the bird-bath. Before I start on my monsoon photos, here's one last look at something that sings of Summer . my bird-bath. Do you remember the most frequented area in my garden (by the birds, I mean)? It has been seeing feathered traffic like never before all summer long! This Red Vented Bulbul had the time of his life puffing out his feathers and splashing so the water could reach and drench each and every part of his body. Have you heard it. Posted by Sunita Mohan. Its ju...

The Urban Gardener: May 2014

http://the-urban-gardener.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 15, 2014. Summer in the garden. Summer is crackling like a seething fire-cracker now, isn't it? Not my favourite time of the year. But then, I could make excuses for the spectacular blooms on almost every tree and in my garden. It all started with the Red Silk Cotton bursting into bloom one day . Gangly, thorny, leafless branches sprouting massive red blooms almost as if by spontaneous combustion! And out sprang Spring! The nectar-loving birds were ecstatic! And the Yellow Copper Pod trees !

The Urban Gardener: April 2013

http://the-urban-gardener.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 9, 2013. A sense of Spring. Breathe in the fragrance of a new season,. Drink in the vibrant colours of a new year (you really don't think January marks a new year, do you? Gorge on the flavours of the new fruits weighing down the trees,. Smile at the crescendo of joyous bird-calls overhead and faraway and round-about . Spring is here and makes sure you know it by a mad, merry, exuberant sensory overload! Or gangs of ants quilting a heliconia bloom? And high-flying Pariah Kites grant their ...

The Urban Gardener: Growing food for my table

http://the-urban-gardener.blogspot.com/2013/10/growing-food-for-my-table.html

Sunday, October 27, 2013. Growing food for my table. I'm a happy gardener these days. All the hard work in the vegetable garden has paid off and my table is loaded with the fruits and vegetables we grew. Which is a real relief when I read in the papers about the spiraling prices. We usually grow a lot of veggies. I've never seen anything like it in all the years that I've been farming. And that too, at the start of the harvest before the plants came into their full yielding potential. It looks even prett...

Nature shots: Happy and prosperous New year to all of you

http://aswathikasimadom.blogspot.com/2014/01/happy-and-prosperous-new-year-to-all-of.html

Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Happy and prosperous New year to all of you. Its my great wish to continue blogging in this year. Blogging inspired me to read and write more. Still I am not a professional writer but this platform had given me the freedom to expose in front of the world. I am grateful for all these and love all of you for inspiring me all the time. During vacations we will argue for the trips. After the trips I had written these lines. It was a search to find a solitude among these problems.

http://cluelessgardenerindubai.blogspot.com/2011/01/patio-is-producing.html

Clueless Gardener in Dubai. A blog about my attempts to grow vegetables and flowers in Dubai. Tuesday, 11 January 2011. The Patio is Producing! Where did all the nasty pests go? I don't really want to know. But what I have worked out is that plants that are well fed and looked after at the early stages have a better chance of thriving and producing than those that come under stress when young. Leaf miners, caterpillars, thrips and all the rest of you, stay away! Coriander alongside Pak Choi and Okra.

Clueless Gardener in Dubai. A blog about my attempts to grow vegetables and flowers in Dubai. Tuesday, 2 November 2010. I wish I had some brilliant pics of healthy plants bending with the weight of ripe tomatoes, snow peas gone wild all over a trellis, rows of crunchy lettuces and pots of fragrant herbs- pics to feel proud of and to begin this blog. Unfortunately, I have nothing of the sort. Seems to be the fastest growing so far. Got some nine onions hopefully growing under that soil. A UK variety- not ...

The Urban Garden

Tuesday, 12 March 2013. My father called me tonight to talk about the latest political events in Italy. Apparently the majority of the Italian new generation voted for a comedian, considered the loudest - figuratively and not, as he does always shout - alternative political voice. For this reason, all newspapers are now recalling '68 movements and youth revolution, almost predicting a new one in Italy. Eventually, I believe this is not going to happen as our new generations' arses are way too lazy. The j...
