The Urban Scout - Final year 'PGDip in Architecture' thesis project:

Monday, 25 May 2009. Main entrance with views through to courtyard beyond. Looking towards life skills classroom. I have already pinned up but thought that the presentation was lacking some views of the interior of the building - especially if I am going to talk about visual permeability. In my presentation - so have done a couple of quick shots to add to the portfolio before tomorrow's internal exam board. Monday, 18 May 2009. A slightly low quality image but it shows the general content and layout.

The Urban Scout - Final year 'PGDip in Architecture' thesis project:: Volumes and Elevations

http://the-urban-scout.blogspot.com/2009/04/volumes-and-elevations.html

Thursday, 16 April 2009. Further amendments to the plans resulted in the addition of the second floor. This tied in with site sections forming a stronger relationship with the site and raised interesting opportunities for the internal volumes and the elevations. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The aim of this thesis is to investigate whether the traditional scout movement is relevant in contemporary society - specifically in an urban environment? Reginald Parade - Behind the Bike Sheds.

The Urban Scout - Final year 'PGDip in Architecture' thesis project:: Spatial Hierarchy

http://the-urban-scout.blogspot.com/2009/02/spatial-hierarchy.html

Monday, 9 February 2009. Are an analysis of the spatial relationships between the different uses throughout the building. The theory here is to help with the hierarchical. Arrangement of the building. Certain rooms / uses interrelate and overlap with each other - if these interactions were to take on a physical manifestation it can be seen which use would be dominant and which subordinate, helping to develop an architectural language throughout the building. The Urban Scout - Final year 'PGDip in Architecture' thesis project:: Block Model

http://the-urban-scout.blogspot.com/2009/02/block-model.html

Wednesday, 18 February 2009. Following a critical analysis with Bob I have revisited the scheme; from its positioning. And relationship with the site to the arrangement of rooms. A series of 'activity boxes' (Bob, not me) relate to each other and to the site either expressing the activity within or secluding it dependent the amount of privacy required. Ryan, I think this is a really strong image, it conveys ideas of space simply and effectively. Maybe colour would add further depth to that?

The Urban Scout - Final year 'PGDip in Architecture' thesis project:: April 2009

http://the-urban-scout.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 21 April 2009. Reginald Parade - Behind the Bike Sheds. Reginald Parade - Before. A design review of my thesis project at work brought up some concerns about the treatment of Reginald Parade. I had removed the shops leaving the colonnaded. Facade as an entrance to the site with railings between the bays. This was felt to be too incongruous with no architectural connection to the building. Thursday, 16 April 2009. A quick render of the scheme in context. Visual / Physical Connections. Once a deci...

Aire-scape: Plans

http://aire-scape.blogspot.com/2009/08/plans.html

Friday, 21 August 2009. Getting there on the plans. First floor now, this one is shaping up well with a new staff area and updated cafe/terrace. Ground floor, lots of progress on the nursery, support and staff areas. And the basement, with wcs, plant, general store and bin access. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Aire-scape: July 2009

http://aire-scape.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Friday, 24 July 2009. Quick and Dirty Update. After some rationalising of the plans, here's the latest update. On the top floor we have the medical centre, arranged a central corridor with glazed partitions. At present there is access to a fire escape across the roof of the storey below, which needs refining. The first floor will contain the waiting area and admin for the medical centre. The cafe might also end up here, using the outdoor space created by the large forms to present an outdoor terrace.

Aire-scape: August 2009

http://aire-scape.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Friday, 21 August 2009. This is the main stair atrium from the top floor looking down to ground floor. I've gone for lightweight stainless steel handrail with glass infill to match the language of the stairs and atrium. There is a line of fire-rated glass dividing the atrium from the spaces, which provides protection and works with the solar gain / passive vent strategy of the atria themselves. Here's the view from the grassed square, showing the building in context. Getting there on the plans. Something...

Aire-scape: Site Works

http://aire-scape.blogspot.com/2011/02/site-works.html

Tuesday, 8 February 2011. Below is a satellite photo of the site with a "wish list" of site improvements. 1 Ideally the roof needs to be made waterproof or preferably properly re-instated with a pitch. A green roof would be an excellent solution. Provision for fire escapes need to be worked out, and the building needs an electrical, water and heating overhaul. 2 A new bridge link to the opposite bank of the river and nature reserve. 3 Clear the site and possibly create allotments. Aire-scape: February 2011

http://aire-scape.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, 24 February 2011. I've got an early section on the drawing board, still loads to do such as the new stairwell, ideas for the roof and bringing it all to life. However, the most interesting thing that this drawing shows is probably the unique barrel vaults of the floor structure. Tuesday, 8 February 2011. Below is a satellite photo of the site with a "wish list" of site improvements. 2 A new bridge link to the opposite bank of the river and nature reserve. We have a new project for Aire-scape!

Aire-scape: March 2009

http://aire-scape.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Friday, 27 March 2009. It's been a tough week so far preparing the tech report. Key section is nearly finished, and I'm working on structural and fixings details alongside. In the meantime though, here is the main elevation ready to have materials info attached. Wednesday, 18 March 2009. A big update this week, I've been refining the plan to take into account the structure, and also engaging much more with the spaces. Added staff facilties and refined GP consulting. Aire-scape: April 2009

http://aire-scape.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 29 April 2009. Elevations - new colour scheme. I've been experimenting with a new colour scheme for the overall presentation. I want to go for a mixed media approach of hand drawings, photomontage and CAD all mixed together, and with a much more subdued colour scheme because the previous pastel colour scheme was detracting from the architecture. Here's a work in progress section. Monday, 27 April 2009. I've entered Aire-scape into the Northern Design competition. Tuesday, 21 April 2009. Nurser...

Aire-scape: January 2009

http://aire-scape.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 20 January 2009. The sketchup model of the Allen Tod Masterplan has now been completed. This will be extremely useful for massing and sunpath analysis. This sunpath analysis has been essential, as I find the brief taking the project more and more toward passive solar design. Friday, 16 January 2009. Spent a lot of time refining the project proposal document this week. We've got a new precedent - Sandy Road Clinic. Friday, 9 January 2009. Site Visual Note Taking. Monday, 5 January 2009. Aire-scape: June 2009

http://aire-scape.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, 18 June 2009. Well, nearly a month after my last post and the results are in - Aire-scape didn't make the grade. More specifically, the one thing which didn't make the grade was the design itself i.e. poor arrangement for solar gain, no justification to bridge over the locks and overall style and quality of presentation. The new concept goes back to the slogan - "unlocking the leeds-liverpool canal" and uses a series of new constructions like keys on a key-ring:. Architecturally it will use sim...

Wednesday, 9 May 2012. Two weeks before and its weather watch, really don’t care what it does but please, please, don’t be hot. So what does the weather man say, race day 20 degrees C which doesn’t sound bad but all my long runs have been at. 5 degrees and that’s a big jump, then you here about the hell the runners went through at Boston and I really started bricking it, even did all my taper runs on the treadmill to try and get used to warmer temperatures.
