24th St Paul's Scout Group. The long route of 37.4 miles involves some 6300 feet of ascent, whilst the short routeof 26.2 miles has 4000 feet of ascent. Please see the Route Page. The routes start and finish at Sowerby Cricket Club, St Peter´s Avenue, Sowerby, HX6 1DF. SE045232 (South Pennines Map). This is the Hike HQ. As some of the terrain is harsh, the organizing committee recommend that navigation skills are required, especially if the weather is inclement. Refreshments at roadside Check Points.

The Calderdale Hike has been run by 24th St Paul's Scout Group since 1979 when it was the brainchild of Peter White, the Scoutmaster at the time, and the first 3 events were based upon a circuit of the Calderdale Way (50 miles) with HQ being at Brooksbank School in Elland. 24th St Paul's Scout Group. Every person to finish the Hike will receive a certificate for a fine personal achievement. One trophy per person, team entries are not eligible for individual trophies. To be eligible for the team trophies all four members must complete the Hike. Junior teams are to have a combined age of 68 or less, and veterans must be aged 50 or over on the date of the Hike. Walkers on the shorter circuit proceed from White House and rejoin the longer route at Lumbutts Church. There will be refreshments at all roadside checkpoints.
