Pop Culture Junkie: April 2010
http://stoneypop.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 9, 2010. Clash of Titan-ic Proportions. As many nostalgia buffs flock to movie theaters to check out the 2010 remake of 1981 adventure/scifi classic "Clash of the Titans", just as many seem to be flocking to video stores to pick up copies of the original DVD release as well as recent remastered re-release. Clash of the Titans" circa 1981 is one of my fave movies of all time and I'm hoping that the new version at least comes close to living up to the original. But why take my word for it?

Pop Culture Junkie: Darkness
http://stoneypop.blogspot.com/2010/09/darkness.html
Sunday, September 19, 2010. It is dark here. Maybe the darkest I’ve ever seen. I know there is more here if I can only find whatever it is. In my. Nervousness I’ve struggled to reach out for some kind of clue. All there seems to be is the rough ground beneath. My feet and the feel of the cold hand-me-down jewelry around my wrists. Is it hot in here or is it just me? The strong smell of pine is as hard to miss as the splinters that irritate every inch of my back. The itch is so intense. It hard to even re...

Pop Culture Junkie: December 2009
http://stoneypop.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 1, 2009. In case you might be wondering, the picture just to the left is from my old school - Frankfurt American Junior High in Frankfurt, Germany. The picture is from what I can tell, a rough scan taken from the 1980/81 yearbook which means that buried in the middle of all those plastic winter jackets and faded blue jean clad kids could be yours truly. What does this have to do with pop culture? I'm sure I thought so then. Sadly this was the last of the good times for a while. We t...

Pop Culture Junkie: March 2009
http://stoneypop.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 4, 2009. The year was 1976 and I had just landed in the center of the U.S. from a four-year stint in Zweibrucken, Germany. Well, at least close to the center as we were always told that the exact middle of America was somewhere in Kansas and Dad got stationed in Fort Riley. So for all intents and purposes, we were in the general vicinity. There's was always plenty to do and better yet, it could be done without the assistance of parents. This went on for weeks! So I gave up. Another part ...

Pop Culture Junkie: April 2009
http://stoneypop.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 23, 2009. Before ipod. There Was Boombox. Back in the days of my youth we also had portable ways to play our favorite music. Unlike the mp3 player where you store all your fave tunes in this little player though, back in the day you had to carry your music around with you separately. But it was worth it and added a little groove to the average swagger. Of course the portable player I'm talking about is a boombox and the music? Piles and piles of cassette tapes. I still got the hair! To pro...

Pop Culture Junkie: Coffin Fit
http://stoneypop.blogspot.com/2010/09/coffin-fit.html
Friday, September 17, 2010. Hardly a Halloween has gone by without the Deadbeats coming to town. Most of the locals even have a hard time remembering the last time Deep Valley celebrated All Hallows Eve without the band appearing in some form or fashion. Old man Wichum swears the group performed at the 1958 Halloween Hayride. The teenagers will hear nothing of it. No way the hottest rock group around has been around for fifty years. 8220;What do they do the rest of the year? 8220;Is something on fire?

Pop Culture Junkie: Tears in a Bottle
http://stoneypop.blogspot.com/2010/04/tears-in-bottle.html
Friday, April 9, 2010. Tears in a Bottle. If I could catch your tears. I’d bottle them up. Save them for a Sunny day. When it’s not quite rainy enough. I’d sprinkle them on me. A little bit at a time. And be washed in your heartache. Just enough to remind. Me, that you’re hurtin, just like I do. Hope like rain, on a sunny day. That a rainbow shines through. You, must be wonderin, when your time is due. Let me carry your tears away. In a bottle, for you. If I could grab each drop. That falls from your face.
