Desperate Irish Housewife: June 2014
http://desperateirishhousewife.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 08, 2014. Pentecost and Captain America. I finally watched "Captain America" last week. Gotta say, loved it. It had everything a movie should have: superheroes, overblown musical production numbers, little-guy-gets-big stuff, and beating up on Nazis. I couldn't have asked for more. Now before I go on with my sure-fire, can't fail blockbuster idea, I have to ask you to watch the transformation scene. This is where little Stevie from Brooklyn becomes Captain America:. FEAR OF THE LORD! I have ...

Wednesday, April 29, 2015. New House, Continued. I know what moving means! Oblomov went on, growing more and more impressive. "It means noise, breakages; everything is heaped together on the floor. The portmanteau, the back of the sofa, picture, pipes, books, all sorts of bottles one doesn't see at other times are sure to turn up from somewhere! And if one is thirsty, the decanter is here, but there is no glass! Why did you talk of moving! No man could stand it! Ivan Goncharov, "Oblomov," 1859. It's a bi...

Desperate Irish Housewife: October 2014
http://desperateirishhousewife.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 27, 2014. I just posted a link on #Monday Blogs. Hello everybody! Oh, and I'm entering NaNoWriMo and I think they do the fancy tag thing, too. I gotta figure out this tag thing. Anyone else doing NaNoWriMo this year? I'm not a native Mineesotan. I've been here about ten years. And I still have not accepted the winters. My Minnesota friends are very amused by my reactions to the cold. Me, I'm not so amused. Hope y'all enjoy the blog. Come again soon! Links to this post. Links to this post.

Desperate Irish Housewife: The Move, Cont.
http://desperateirishhousewife.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-move-cont.html
Tuesday, May 05, 2015. The Move, Cont. Well I finally had it: I had The Move Nightmare. Then, hopefully, I wake up, usually in a cold sweat. We moved into the new house ten days ago, and are still surrounded by boxes and boxes and boxes. I had to go out and buy a new remote before we could watch tv, and I still haven't found the coffee pot. I was just begging my husband to gather our guests together and stall them with some dazzling monologues when I woke up. In a cold sweat. I gotta find some more pots.

Desperate Irish Housewife: Country Life
http://desperateirishhousewife.blogspot.com/2015/06/country-life.html
Thursday, June 25, 2015. I suppose I should call it "Life in what is still now technically 'country' as it has farms but is probably going to be a suburb in five years' time, what with all the new developments going up.". I live in one of those new developments, but once I leave the development it's just me and the cornfields. When I walk the dog in the mornings it's mostly farms we pass. I'm also encountering quite a few wild turkeys. They are very loud. Does anyone know if they're edible? Transplanted ...

Desperate Irish Housewife: Rick Santorum
http://desperateirishhousewife.blogspot.com/2015/05/rick-santorum.html
Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Yesterday my daughter's school hosted a speech by Senator Rick Santorum. Santorum was there to talk about his new book, "Bella's Gift: How One Little Girl Transformed a Family and Inspired a Nation." The Santorums' eighth child was born with Trisomy 18, a profoundly debilitating condition. 90% of children born with Trisomy 18 don't live past their first birthday. Next week, Bella will be seven years old. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Air and Space ...

Desperate Irish Housewife: November 2014
http://desperateirishhousewife.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 28, 2014. My daughter is 14. That is to say, she is at an age where the thought of Black Friday shopping is still exciting. Desperate, of course, is not burdened with this excitement. But I am the Mom, so I agreed to take the kid to the mall. We got there about 10 am. Already it had the feel of the VFW Hall after the party's gone home. Tired, empty, only a few diehard bargain hunters still around. Will the age 5-to-9 girl I'm packing a box for like the sweatpants I bought? It won't chang...
