Friday, August 14, 2015. Shots in the dark. I set my alarm for 3 o'clock Thursday morning. There was a meteor shower in progress and I was determined to get some pictures of it. The 7MSN may not have garbage pickup or pizza delivery service,. But by golly we've got dark skies. What better place to view and photograph meteors, right? I studied up on the recommended meteor-shooting settings for my camera. And walked outside with confidence that I would capture a pile of blog-worthy images. 8/14/15, 4:02 AM.

Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Things we do when it rains. 1 Take attendance. Storms aren't as scary when I know where all the animals are. 2 Walk from window to window watching it because: a) it's always a novelty and b) it's fun to see impromptu creeks rise in the front yard. 3 Monitor this really cool website. That shows where lightning is striking in real time. 4 Monitor the weather radar to gauge how much I need to worry and/or pray because I keep forgetting to procure emergency sandbags. 7/28/15, 4:45 AM.

Q What happened to Deets? A Deets, everybody's favorite barn cat, walked off into the pasture with Hank, George and Alan on July 23, 2010 around 8 pm That was the last time I saw him. I suspect a coyote caught him off guard in the cover of darkness. As much as I need another barn cat, I would rather live with mice than go through that kind of heartbreak again. Sunday, 10 July 2016. I have quite a soft spot for skunks. Their black and white coat is elegant haute couture. They help keep rodent populations in check and you have to admire their natural ability to use 'bear spray' if threatened. Skunks and I have shared many walkabouts and I must say, they have been nothing but polite to me. My cat, Ellie Mae, prefers them to other cats. Jimmy skunk takes an early mor ning dri nk.
