Why We Do It. Why We Do It. The ABWC was founded by its President Nooria Nodrat, an Afghani Blind woman who knows firsthand the struggles of both blind women and blind children in her native country:. Afghanistan has one of the highest blind populations in the world, as there are over 400,000 blind individuals (roughly 2% of the population). With over 30 years of war and political unrest, Afghanistan remains one of the poorest countries in the world.

Why We Do It. The objective of the foundation is to provide financial support to improve Afghan women’s healthcare, thus allowing an increase in their quality of life and independence. Medical services will include prenatal and childbirth care, vision services, nutritional guidance, disease prevention and the treatment of critical mental and physical illnesses.

Why We Do It. Nooria Nodrat was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1961. With both her husband and brother being blind, Nooria experienced firsthand the hardships faced by the blind population in her country. She worked as an editor for The Institute for the Blind in Kabul. Nooria is finally fulfilling her lifelong dream in starting the Afghanistan Blind Women and Children Foundation and enhancing the lives of the blind women and children in her native country.
