The Accidental Anabaptist

Musings and occasional *soapbox* rants on all that inspires me, and on the journey that shaped me. Thoughts on faith, friends, and family. Monday, December 8, 2014. I haven't been blogging much this year, but I had to get this out there. This Sunday at our church, Brother Ainsworth gave the message, and it was about "Wimpy Christianity". Basically, he asked us to examine our hearts, and ask ourselves: "just how bold are we for Christ? Do we make excuses when we have opportunities to witness? Here's where...

The Accidental Anabaptist: The Jesus Police

http://theaccidentalanabaptist.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-jesus-police_1.html

Musings and occasional *soapbox* rants on all that inspires me, and on the journey that shaped me. Thoughts on faith, friends, and family. Monday, September 1, 2014. I think we all know them, or know of them, or maybe, just perhaps, have BEEN one of them? Yes, you know of whom I'm speaking: "The Jesus Police". Here's the problem: They are not THE HOLY SPIRIT. I doubt very seriously that they are even consulting God, or asking Him to move in us, in whatever detail of life that they think we are failing in?

Musings and occasional *soapbox* rants on all that inspires me, and on the journey that shaped me. Thoughts on faith, friends, and family. Saturday, October 19, 2013. Longing To Belong. The Long Road to Self Discovery. Have you ever seen the video to Blind Melon's "No Rain"? Http:/ www.youtube.com/watch? And, it's a visual metaphor that I can relate to. I would imagine many of us can, (? Which is why the video and song were so popular, and the *Bee Girl* captured our hearts. Chew on that for a minute).

Musings and occasional *soapbox* rants on all that inspires me, and on the journey that shaped me. Thoughts on faith, friends, and family. Friday, November 29, 2013. Traveling Options: I'll Take The High Road. Waking up in a house full of wadded up kleenex, Nyquil bottles, and the smell of Unker's Salve spells one thing: We is ill at the Hunt household. I am on the tail end of a migraine. This does not bring out the best in my personality. Or at least your shrink? Because the Bible says to. Proverbs ...

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Thursday, July 14, 2011. I read this post. From Chad Holtz at his site, "Dancing on Saturday". Christianity’s Biggest Mistake. Jul 13, 2011 by. It’s not our buddying up with empire under Constantine. It’s not our acceptance of the myth of redemptive violence, launching the Crusades and countless other imperialistic wars of conquest. It’s not our long history of patriarchy and subsequent subordination of women. That if po...

http://pastorjimthompson.blogspot.com/2009/10/lights-out.html

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Wednesday, October 14, 2009. The other day I popped into to local library to check out a book. While I was there I logged onto the public computer to check my e-mail. Boom! Instant darkness. The monitors were blank, and all the patrons let out a collective, "Awww" along with a few whispered expletives. Their mother arrived (she had been in the restroom when the lights went out- oh, joy) and although she had been down a l...

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead...: God always protects?

http://pastorjimthompson.blogspot.com/2009/06/god-always-protects.html

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Sunday, July 12, 2009. God always protects. In a previous post. About taking my then three-year daughter to the doctor, I speculated about what that divine protection could look like. That episode helps shed a little light on the subject, but makes it seem that God is always behind our pain, or that there is a divine/ultimate purpose for our pain. My reaction is, "No! There is plenty of painful evidence that he doesn't!

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Friday, May 1, 2009. The Bible claims that "God is love" and "Love always protects", therefore God always protects. The typical reaction is, "No! There is plenty of painful evidence that he doesn't! http://pastorjimthompson.blogspot.com/2009/06/making-gods-day.html

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Tuesday, June 23, 2009. The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. I used to read the account of the great Flood in the Bible, the story of Noah and his family, and see an angry, fuming God. It's not there. God was grieved and sad. This is just one example that God has emotions and his heart is stirred by what we do. One of my favorite authors, John Fisher. That God would ...

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Thursday, October 15, 2009. The Spirit of God Dances. I love this piece by one of my favorite authors, John Fischer. At The Fischtank :). His favorite dancing places are those where the keepers of the dance don't want Him to go, like on smoky stages with microphones that smell of whiskey. The Spirit of God loves sinners and dances best where life spills out on the floor. Occasionally He dances on the clean, sweet-smellin...
