The Battle of the Butternut | theaccidentalcookandothermisadventures

https://theaccidentalcookandothermisadventures.wordpress.com/2011/04/05/the-battle-of-the-butternut

Just another WordPress.com site. The Battle of the Butternut. Here I am, licking my wounds, after a long and hard-fought battle against the most unwilling of vegetables: the butternut. At one point it appeared the intrepid cook had been outsmarted by the feisty squash when it took hold of the chopping knife and held it hostage. But I’m proud to report that perseverance paid off and the final score was Claire 1, Butternut 0. Why is it that the yummiest of veggies and fruits are the toughest to prepare?

Old school soul | theaccidentalcookandothermisadventures

https://theaccidentalcookandothermisadventures.wordpress.com/2011/03/23/old-school-soul

Just another WordPress.com site. Soul food is something that originated in the American deep South. At least that’s what a quick trawl on the Net turned up. And though that may indeed be the case I think I stumbled across the perfect dish to feed the soul . . . although it needs quite a bit of fine-tuning. And I think that journey will be part of the reason it will nourish the spirit. My brother who has been fittingly dubbed Heston for his cooking antics and experiments has made everything from glazed ha...

Red Velvet chaos | theaccidentalcookandothermisadventures

https://theaccidentalcookandothermisadventures.wordpress.com/2011/03/18/red-velvet-chaos

Just another WordPress.com site. I am a words girl. I work with words, day in and day out; I relax by immersing myself in a good book. One thing I am not good at: numbers. Especially when it comes to food and quantities. One story pops to mind: my birthday dinner at my house last year. I invited a few (okay, more than a dozen) friends to chow down on homemade veggie lasagne. That seemed like a grand idea: how hard could it be? So I used two 500 gram packs (mills and grams, same things, right? As the cloc...

Just another WordPress.com site. Shop ’til you drop. Tell her how you feel. Shop till you drop. Just happen to live in Cape Town? I have just the adventure to tickle your funny bone . . . When friends grabbed me and proposed a shopping spree at China Town, I had no idea what to expect. And I think that’s the secret of an enjoyable outing like this: few expectations. And so we set out, a little cash stuck in the darkest corners of our wallets, you know, just in case something caught the eye. You can get i...

Dinner in a jiffy | theaccidentalcookandothermisadventures

https://theaccidentalcookandothermisadventures.wordpress.com/2011/03/30/dinner-in-a-jiffy

Just another WordPress.com site. Dinner in a jiffy. I included the misadventures in the name of my blog to cover the expeditions beyond the kitchen . . . at least that was the idea. I didn’t want this to be just-another-food-blog. But the blogging gods are conspiring against me and it seems all my recent adventures involve food. As with any of Claire’s anecdotes, this one has a history. For years many friends and family have given my folks a hard time about the amount of food they buy, store and cook...

TheAccidentalConservative

The discovery of fundemental values…. Oh friends…it seems I am ensnared in the economic whirlwind affecting our country and basically, the world…….I am laid off…. Of course this was somewhat of a surprise but not totally unexpected, or even unwelcome, except for the dismal job market and the economy driving that (lack of) a job market.Of course this has given me an entirely new perspective on what is going on in the country today. In fact, perhaps the real challenge is to remain upbeat and confident in t...

The Accidental Country Girl

The adventures of this city girl who found herself in the country and who is quickly becoming a country girl. Thursday, 25 April 2013. I have so much to write about but I guess I'll just start with this one. It's THAT look, you know that one? The one where I know for certain that my client cannot possibly push themselves any harder. The look that tells me they are at their peak and thats where they have to stay. The look that screams at me, 'When is this going to finish? I might puke.'. In my years of ex...
