The Adoptive Parent: Casey's Story

http://theadoptiveparent.blogspot.com/2013/07/caseys-story.html

Wednesday, July 17, 2013. And I know he's trying to help other people heal, but his experience as an adoptive parent was (thankfully) very different from my own. It's awfully sad, and I think about how each time I slip down the slope it takes more out of me, and I'm afraid one of these times I won't be able to climb back up, so I don't write back. But his story tugs like a plaintive child. And I think of Myst. And Von and Christina. And Linda Lou Who and Ariel. But she never made it. I connected with oth...

The Adoptive Parent: Open & Closed

http://theadoptiveparent.blogspot.com/2013/03/open-closed.html

Wednesday, March 27, 2013. The following is a revised version of something I posted three years ago. My understanding of and perspective on adoption continues to evolve. I hope it always will. Many of the most vocal adoptees are either craving a deeper connection with their first families or mourning the realization that such a connection is erratic, inconsistent, unexpectedly toxic, ultimately unfulfilling, or will never be at all. Most days I'm uncertain. Have I asked for too much? And when is next?

The Adoptive Parent: April 2013

Friday, April 26, 2013. Please Read Ariel's Blog. If you haven't found Ariel's blog. Yet, please go there today. Her voice is essential to the adoption conversation. She writes: Even all these months later, it doesn’t take a lot for grief to overpower me. I don’t know how to think about him, this little person that I can’t bring myself to address anymore, and not have it ruin my day. Adoptive parents, we need to listen. Links to this post. my thoughts through the journey of adoption: completely overwhelmed

http://mythoughtsthroughthejourneyofadoption.blogspot.com/2010/03/completely-overwhelmed.html

March 24, 2010. I know, it's been a long time since i've visited here. I must admit, I have found myself completely overwhelmed by all the paperwork, all the decisions that need to be made, and finding myself in all the answers. He started laughing and said "i can not wait! It's those little reminders that keep you trucking through the manuals and questions and forms and financing. Our first step was reading the adoption manual. Chapter One: Importance of Moving on from Infertility to Adoption. 2 Ability...

It's Just One Hat: October 2011

http://pmojzak.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

It's Just One Hat. A birthmom's life post-placement. Saturday, October 15, 2011. I am toying with the idea of doing the open adoption interview project. I really want to get more into the swing of things, but I'm worried that if I commit, I won't be able to find the time that I need to do it. But sometimes, like last night, I feel like a big fat failure. I stood in the kitchen last night, walking a fussy baby and singing my standard Irish lullabies, and. I wish, that when I'm tending to one of them ( Jeb.

http://pmojzak.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

It's Just One Hat. A birthmom's life post-placement. Saturday, December 25, 2010. Merry Christmas, everyone! Hope your day is filled with peace, joy, family, and laughter :). Sunday, December 19, 2010. I was so excited about my wrapping paper last year! This year the baking got done, but it felt a bit like a chore. The cards went out, and I was happy to see them go, but I'm not rushing to the mail box everyday to gather in ones received. The shopping is done, and I only have Jeb. 3 shop for everybody -.

my thoughts through the journey of adoption: Time Flies When You Are Having Fun...

http://mythoughtsthroughthejourneyofadoption.blogspot.com/2010/08/time-flies-when-you-are-having-fun.html

August 06, 2010. Time Flies When You Are Having Fun. We had our APQ interview and met our personal social worker and adoption coordinator that will be with us throughout the rest of the journey. During the interview our adoption specialist goes through each question and each answer and lets us know how our decisions may or may not effect our match. We got a great big "high five" from our coordinator and were told we could not have done a better APQ. YES! So keep your fingers crossed that all goes well!

August 11, 2010. Request For Live Scans and Please Don't Forget to Include Your Entire Personal History. We got through our first home study interview! In all honesty, it wasn't much of an interview. It was more like a "here is another pile of redundant forms and paperwork"meeting. I am not discouraged. In fact, I haven't even slowed down. I have this goal in mind, you know, that six week goal. And, I will not fail that goal by fault of my own. Period! Love to you all! Links to this post. August 06, 2010.

It's Just One Hat: Quick Takes.

http://pmojzak.blogspot.com/2011/10/quick-takes.html

It's Just One Hat. A birthmom's life post-placement. Thursday, October 6, 2011. I don't have much time for, well, much, lately. But I hate that so much time is flying by without recording any memories. 1 Will is 8 weeks old. Holy shit. This newborn period went by so much faster than with Jeb. I must admit, I'm happy it's going by fast right now. Confession: I don't love the newborn thing. Sorry. 2 We moved to Virginia! 4 I don't have a job yet and I am LOVING it. A Stork Story: A Mommy-in-Waiting: January 2010

http://storkstory.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 11, 2010. Almost a Forever Family! I CANNOT believe that Lyla is already 4 1/2 months old; or that I haven't blogged at all in three months; or that we are finally almost done with Lyla's adoption process. Lyla is a happy, charming, adorable baby - she has brought so much joy to my life, and the lives of everyone around us. I can barely remember life before her, and even on those sleepless nights when I can barely get out of bed, I am still so, so thankful that she is in my life! Lyla's f...

http://storkstory.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Our First Post-Placement Visit. WOW - I can't believe it's Sept 22nd already! Lyla is already a month old - she's gaining weight and growing like crazy - she gained 1 lb 9 oz, putting her up to 9 lb 6 oz, and she grew an inch, so she's 20.5" already. INSANE! We will have 3 more visits in the coming months, and soon we'll be scheduling our court date in Texas (some time at the end of February/early March) and then it will all be final. Such a process! Welcome Home Lyla Grace!

February 16, 2010. Well, we did it! I'm happy to report that we have sent in our first initial non-refundable payment and step one of the application process! I can't begin to express our excitement! I'll admit I thought this moment would never come. It seemed like such a huge step, this big hill of many to come. We have been welcomed to the agency and they have the first little bit of information about us. The journey begins! Links to this post. Becoming an adoptive parent. February 10, 2010. What if th...

The Adoptive Mom

Asymp; 2 Comments. Adoption; foster care; hurt children;. Adoption; foster child; transition; neglect. It has been over two months since Ls departure. At first, we needed time to breathe. To not think about it. In fact, ask anyone close to me and they will confirm that I still don’t talk about it. I can’t – not without far too much grief surfacing. Perhaps that is best – I suspect not. Perhaps she is doing remarkably well – if so, she is simply experiencing yet another honeymoon phase. Asymp; 2 Comments.

Join the New Adoptive Mom Sisterhood! July 27, 2015. We’ve had a houseguest staying with us from overseas this week. Since our family is not only transracial but multi-cultural. My idea of a fab dinner party is to have at least two languages and sometimes three or four continents represented at the table. That’s exactly what happened yesterday at our favorite Mexican restaurant. (Here’s my husband Tim on the left jamming on, um, yukele (! It was a fun night! Without all the cynicism and negativity.
