The April Tree's Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Newer posts →. It’s Always in the Last Place You Look. August 31, 2010. I’ll never forget the first live gig I did as a fill in bass player for a local cover band. 8221; and NOTHING came out. It went in fits and starts for the rest of the set, and the third set was hurriedly rewritten to allow screaming, growling, and screeching to carry us to the end of the gig. 1: SLEEP. Your voice is an instrument that lives in your body. Its condition,...The a...

Blog Challenge – Underachievement, Excuses and Redemption. October 25, 2010. OK, maybe it’s taken me a few years to achieve the perspective to recognise when a routine or exercise isn’t working and the maturity to do something about it. Didn’t believe that person? Someone else was always on the computer. I recei...

The April Tree's Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Introducing an Unlikely Triumverate →. Motivation, Procrastination and the Nine Week Challenge. August 10, 2010. I will concede (concession being one of my strong suits; procrastination another… brevity of prose and conciseness of syntax are not – you have been warned) that I set this blog up almost a year ago, with every intention of committing to words the story of my band, The April Tree, as its story evolved. Of all musicians – at least,...

Musings on the business of LdJ design. January 12, 2015. Re-acquainting myself with my blog, I realised I posted *one* post last year… :-/ – that is appalling. So, to you my followers, I apologise. I will try harder this year! I had a short break from work over the summer and started to get my summer wardrobe into order (long overdue). I did also go to the Clegs remnant sale… so picked up lots of lovely fabrics there. You may notice it is very similar in pattern to my Spring Blouse. Next post →. 😜 (it w...

Vintage Patterns – 1960s | LdJ design blog
https://ldjdesign.wordpress.com/2013/09/09/vintage-patterns-1960s
Musings on the business of LdJ design. September 9, 2013. Vintage Patterns – 1960s. I love a good vintage pattern, and have started a collection via ebay purchases of 1950s, 1960s and 1970s sewing patterns. I find it very amusing that some of them were only 60c back then! This pattern is Simplicity 5953 – dated 1965. It is a lovely shift style dress, with diagonal darts from the bust down beyond the waistline. I found some 60s looking fabric in Spotlight, and put the two together. Next post →. On Vintage...
The “Pants Pinafore” | LdJ design blog
https://ldjdesign.wordpress.com/2013/09/11/the-pants-pinafore
Musings on the business of LdJ design. September 11, 2013. The “Pants Pinafore”. So, when my husband’s expensive, fine wool suit work pants wore away to a form a massive hole in areas where there should not be holes. I thought ‘90% of this fabric is in perfect condition, what a waste it would be throw the pants out’. Looking at the photos, I can see I really need to iron the dress – so apologies! However, once I had laid out the pants as the dress form, I added diagonal darts (took that idea from the 196...

Musings on the business of LdJ design. Vintage on a roll – 1974. September 9, 2013. So, among my Vintage pattern scoop, I also got hold of this 1974 “Style 4409” pattern. Perfect for knit fabrics, I found some discount knit fabric at Spotlight (I think it was reduced to $2/m or something equally ridiculous! 8211; and decided to give it a go. I cut two pieces for the centre front on this pattern, so I could have fabric pattern on the diagonal in the upper bodice. Vintage Patterns – 1960s. September 9, 2013.
Superhero Silliness | LdJ design blog
https://ldjdesign.wordpress.com/2015/02/09/superhero-silliness
Musings on the business of LdJ design. February 9, 2015. 2014 seemed to be the year of Superhero parties. I was turning 33 last year, and decided I would host a party, with a superhero theme. I had decided this some time before a friend of ours announced a hero and villain party. For my own party I had chosen The Blonde Phantom. There appeared to be a few iterations of her costume throughout the years, but the key components seemed to be: blue fitted suit, black boots, black gloves, black waistband and c...
My 1970s Dress | LdJ design blog
https://ldjdesign.wordpress.com/2012/03/12/my-1970s-dress
Musings on the business of LdJ design. March 12, 2012. My Mum still has a collection of patterns that my grandmother ‘Mama’ used back in the 1970s to make dresses for my Mum. There are some lovely patterns among them, and there was a Simplicity (No. 6329) pattern in particular that I have been wishing to try out for many years. The dress was lovely and simple to sew, and I hand finished the facings and hem. The dress also fitted perfectly, with no alterations needed – I had heard that my Mum wa...PS R...

The April Tree
Is Glenn Howard, a velvet-voiced multi instrumentalist and songwriter. He's been described as an AFL footballer with concert pianist hands. Lush, beautiful epics for the four-minute attention span.". I was 'never cool in school,' and some time ago I stopped trying to be. Cool always left me cold, if you'll pardon the pun; by and large, the music that moves me is epic rather than cool; I think cool is transitory whereas epic is timeless, and that's always going to be my most honest and creative place&...

Facts, Jokes, and Pictures!
Facts, Jokes, and Pictures! Not at all… lol. I just died of cuteness overdose! Psh who needs an ipod? Hahah like a sir. The most prolific mother in history was a Russian peasant who had 69 children in the 18th century, 67 of which survived infancy. Between 1725 and 1765, she endured 27 multiple births, which included 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets, and four sets of quadruplets. Haha this is so true. This will be a blog based on strange facts, funny pictures, and cheesy jokes.
