Them's My Sentiments: September 2013
http://themsmysentiments.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, 26 September 2013. No More Pine Tree. The pine tree perch for the wireless node has been superceded by a genuine, bolted to the rock tower. Here you see the intrepid climber fastening the last piece in place. We are all hoping that the next storm will not cause any more fried electronics - the tower is grounded! And here are the crazy climbing guys mugging for the camera. I can't believe there is no camera shake in this one, as the pair of them were terrifying me. Links to this post.

Them's My Sentiments: Dogged
http://themsmysentiments.blogspot.com/2015/07/dogged.html
Tuesday, 21 July 2015. Note to readers: this blog is in large part a record for my granddaughter and so this is a long and somewhat tedious catalogue of life-with-dogs as a record for her. Feel free to quit reading after four paragraphs. A policeman arrived to investigate and I took him to the kitchen to see Rusty who, shameless beggar that he was, lay down on his back and waved four paws at the cop, inviting a belly rub. End of incident. One spring night we arrived at our rural property and he wrenched ...

Not so grand reopening. Driftwood (friday foto finder) →. Distorted views through ice. April 2, 2015. Part of what was keeping me busy over the last few months was winter. It was a long hard winter. There was so very much ice and snow. Record-breaking quantities of snow. It’s really quite hard to reconcile this sparkling beauty with the knowledge that it was the herald of thousands of dollars worth of damage to the house. This entry was posted in life. Not so grand reopening. April 3, 2015 at 12:23 pm.

Newer posts →. December 9, 2015. A festive holiday ball that someone dropped in an icy parking lot a couple of years ago. (I’m happy to say that this year, we haven’t yet had more than a few stray flakes of snow. I know it’s coming, but I’m not ready for it yet. I’m still recovering from last winter.). So much for trying to blog daily for the month of November like I’d done the past 7 years. Not only did I drop the ball. November 26, 2015. The turkeys didn’t visit us today, which is Thanksgiving in...

Darwin and Eliot and History* | Curiouser and Curiouser

If it intruigues me, I just might write about it here. State of the Humanities. The Chastising Professor →. Darwin and Eliot and History*. February 22, 2013. My very smart academic friend, Sam Cohen, recently wrote at length. On the Origins of Species. And that alone, many argue, was enough to revolutionize the century. But, as even the most cursory glance suggests, 1859 was a banner year. It saw the publication of multiple, field-changing books on medical advances. Of George Eliot’s first novel,. Sam po...

Tigereye's Sallies: My "crazy" post is up....
http://tigereyesal.blogspot.com/2009/09/my-crazy-post-is-up.html
I am Sally; my blog is my place to “sally forth”- verbally, emotionally. The tigereye part? I am a cat person- always have been. I work as a cat groomer, I live with cats, I ignore my allergy to cats. I have an inner tiger to protect my inner child. I am both as ferocious as a tiger and as gentle as a pussycat. And then there’s that song "Eye of the Tiger". About strength, passion and survival- all big themes in my life. Wednesday, September 16, 2009. My "crazy" post is up. At The Cheek of God. Tamsen's ...

Them's My Sentiments: November 2014

Monday, 10 November 2014. Thinking Grateful Thoughts about Gratitude. So, thanks to my tagger, Jane Paul. I had my reward in doing the exercise. And so would anyone. Most of those who read me have done it, I think, but if you have not, you are tagged. You’ll be glad you did. Links to this post. Friday, 7 November 2014. Bits and pieces of posts that didn’t get finished. And are now sadly out of date. Too bad. I got a superb dinner out of it, though, as it is JG’s 75. By JG and dumped into piles to compost...

If it intruigues me, I just might write about it here. State of the Humanities. Pencils in the Lunchroom. Of Academic Idealism →. In defense of making students study things they don’t always want to. February 6, 2013. I will be the first to admit that the student-as-consumer model of education that is touted by some university administrators drives me batty. This is. Often implies that students know best what they want and need to learn, and it is our job to deliver precisely what students want. I use th...

Them's My Sentiments: Just after the Ides of May
http://themsmysentiments.blogspot.com/2015/05/just-after-ides-of-may.html
Monday, 18 May 2015. Just after the Ides of May. Spring in Lanark, much as usual except for low rainfall, although we have rain forecast for today. Having typed that, I looked out the office window and saw rain falling. And I meant to get the seed patches in before it started. Ah, well. It is Victoria Day. Here in Canada. We celebrate the Queen’s birthday on the first Monday before the 24. JG has been out hunting porcupines, with a view to keeping the YD’s dog out of the hands of the vet. I love taking t...
