THE ARTING BLOG

Sunday, May 3, 2015. This painting in my sketchbook is about 3" tall. I used Chroma's Jo Sonja Acrylics which are perfect for sketchbook painting. They are low viscosity so they dry flat and the matte surface won't stick to the other page when the book is closed. Friday, April 10, 2015. Video: Tonalist Landscape in Acrylic. Acrylic on panel, 6"x6", 2015. Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Watercolor on vellum bristol, 2014. Tuesday, December 9, 2014. House Portrait Commission Complete! Oil on canvas, 2014.

THE ARTING BLOG: Working on 'The Red Hat'

http://theartingblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/working-on-red-hat.html

Sunday, January 1, 2012. Working on 'The Red Hat'. Since 2011 has now come to a close I will share my progress on the last painting I worked on in 2011, a self portrait. I wanted to try out a combination of an indirect/direct method, taking advantage of wet into wet painting and glazing over heavier paint application (see Rembrandt. 5 I have re-established the outer contour of the face and restated the jaw area. I am simplifying the light and dark areas and removing traces of delineation where I can&...

Artists Paint Themselves: Stephen Southerland

http://artistspaint.blogspot.com/2012/01/stephen-southerland.html

Thursday, January 12, 2012. Title: The Red Hat. 29 x 39 cm. Acrylic on Canvas Paper. This painting was executed at the very end of December 2011. I did this to test out a combination of direct/indirect painting which I explain in some detail on my blog. I am currently journeying towards becoming a full time professional fine artist and teacher. I paint because I must. When I am painting my life makes more sense. Title: Self Portrait 2012. 11"x14" Acrylic on Canvas Panel. January 12, 2012 at 2:54 AM.

Pam Perras: Portrait of Jenny, 6" x 8"

http://pperras.blogspot.com/2012/01/portrait-of-jenny-6-x-8.html

Oil paintings—still life, plein air landscape, and figure. Friday, January 27, 2012. Portrait of Jenny, 6" x 8". Here's a recent portrait sketch I did of a delightful young girl, in a pensive pose. The lighting was natural, which means what we happened to have that day—overhead daylight flourescent and sunlight through windows. Despite the challenge, it was a pleasure to paint Jenny and I hope to paint her again in the near future. Labels: oil on gessoed illustration board. Oh, its beautiful!

Oil paintings—still life, plein air landscape, and figure. Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Looking Back, Wakefield Paint Out 2012. On this very rainy Tuesday, I decided to post my 2012 painting of another overcast day , Overcast Paint Out. I began my painting with a Transparent Oxide Red ground, which you can see peeking through the painting here. People who came by were intrigued by that. It adds some warmth to a rather chilly day. Oil paintings—still life, plein air landscape, and figure. Wednesday, February 20, 2013. February 20, 2013. Well, it's been a wee bit over a year since my last post. Imagine that! Imagine also, all the the good, challenging and sad things that can happen to any family. Many have happened to mine over the past two years. We all experience ups and downs, so it's not unusual, but sometimes you have to shrink your world a bit and focus on family. So, I did. See you all soon! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Febru...

Oil paintings—still life, plein air landscape, and figure. Thursday, December 1, 2011. Settling In and Open House. I hope to be at the Holiday Open House on Friday, December 9th, 6-8pm. If you can, pop in and see the art and say hello to the artists who will definitely. I've been working on some larger paintings lately, while getting things moved into my new studio. What a challenging process it is, to get all set up, but I cannot complain! Happy Holidays, everyone. Wishing you a joyful season.

Oil paintings—still life, plein air landscape, and figure. Thursday, May 26, 2011. Son, 11 x 14". Well, you've met the kitties. This is my son, Stefan, proud owner of Fred and Jacques. Working from a photo, which I haven't often done, I found it easier to focus on other aspects of painting. The drawing stage is easy since Stefan didn't move a bit! Having fun, though. Thanks for visiting! Labels: oil on canvas panel. Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Meet Fred and Jacques, 6x8". Oil on gessoed illustration board.

http://pperras.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Oil paintings—still life, plein air landscape, and figure. Thursday, October 20, 2011. Silent Pines of Grace. Tuesday was overcast, but beautiful in New Hampshire. Leaves are just beginning to change color. I could hear the pattering of raindrops, but didn't feel them; the trees sheltered me. Once the rain stopped, it was so quiet. Pine needles carpeted the path. I enjoyed a mini-vacation in Grace's neighborhood. Labels: 6 x 8. Friday, October 14, 2011. Paint Out Speed Painting! Artist Robin Thornhill,.

Pam Perras: September 2011

http://pperras.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Oil paintings—still life, plein air landscape, and figure. Monday, September 19, 2011. Here's the second painting I did at Amy's, while spending the morning with Band of Brushes friends. It's can be exhilarating to paint with such intensity (and speed) as I did on that overcast day. The concentrated looking and the trusting of instinct that's required, feel like a good workout when I'm done! I learn a lot when I change my approach to painting now and then. Labels: 5 x 7. Oil on gessoed illustration board.

The Art Of Falling

The Art Of Falling. Tuesday, 24 September 2013. Marianne drew herself to her full height (5 feet and half an inch) and inhaled deeply before slamming her fist into her husband’s nose. “You, sir, are a schmuck! 8221; Marianne frowned lovingly at her husband, “Oh I’m glad. I really have to get going dearest, have a horrible day.” she said before turning on her heel and heading out the door, hoisting her handbag over her shoulder as she went. Tuesday, 13 August 2013.
