Wednesday, July 29, 2015. BOOK REVIEW: ABOVE THE EAST CHINA SEA. I do love me some Sarah Bird. Unlike her other novels, this one didn't draw me in at first. Writers are always told to begin a story with a hook, and I have to admit that a first chapter consisting of a conversation in stylized language between a dead fetus and his dead teenaged mother missed the sweet spot for me by a wide margin. But this was Sarah Bird, so I persevered. I'm glad I did. Labels: ABOVE THE EAST CHINA SEA. And serve them tea?

TheArtofNotGettingPublished: LIFE AFTER LIFE

http://theartofnotgettingpublished.blogspot.com/2013/04/life-after-life.html

Sunday, April 28, 2013. I just finished reading Kate Atkinson's LIFE AFTER LIFE. Little, Brown, 2013). And even though it's being reviewed everywhere, including in today's New York Times Book Review. I have thoughts about it too, and isn't sharing thoughts what blogs are for? I'd previously read Atkinson's STARTED EARLY, TOOK MY DOG. Yes, Kate Atkinson and I shared a moment. And to confess that she herself found that prospect absolutely terrifying (as a result, Atkinson seemed to hint, not of her own fea...

You might not be able to see it in the photo, but the building was not only right next to Trajan's Forum; it was actually attached to the ancient brickwork. This was the front door:. Thursday, April 30, 2015. Z IS FOR ABRAHAM ZACUTO. Zacuto was born in Salamanca, Spain, into a family of that city's Jewish nobility, and was given an outstanding religious and secular education. As an adult he became a mathematician and astronomer, served as the rabbi of his community, and taught astronomy at several prestigious Spanish universities, becoming quite well-known in academic circles. Unlike Copernicus, whom we discussed for the letter C. The moon crater Zagut is named after Abraham Zacuto.

Sunday, February 22, 2015. MY SUPER-SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY! LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE A TO Z BLOGGER CHALLENGE! Last April I successfully completed the A to Z Challenge, and it was exhausting but also a lot of fun, and so this April I'm going to go for it again. The Challenge is a month-long commitment to post a theme-related blog a day, all the way though the alphabet, every day except Sunday, and to meet and support other bloggers who are doing the same. You ask, Why? And I reply, Why not? I think of it a...
