Tales of Nomadic Limbo. Monday, November 24, 2008. West of Bryan, you enter Lee County and the Hill Country of central Texas. The area has a rich German, Czech and Wendish. Tradition. My great, great grandparents were of the latter, immigrating here from what is now southeastern Germany. My grandparents lived here, and this place feels like home. I first stopped for some kolaches, sweet bread filled with fruit. My grandmother. I arrived. We chatted. She gave me some fantastic spinach cornbread&#4...She s...

The Bardo: October 2008

http://thebardo.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Tales of Nomadic Limbo. Monday, October 27, 2008. The heavenliest harbor a bicyclist has ever dreamt. Hmmm. To top it off, on Sunday, Fred invited me for dinner and arranged for me to stay at his in-law's place south of town. In perfect Sunday fashion, Fred, Sarah, Doreen, Norm, Janie. Saturday, October 18, 2008. The Bones of Missouri. Leaving the security of family, I biked back through Kansas City, had some fantastic barbecue at Jack Stack. Tuesday, October 14, 2008. North Carolina didn't work out....

Tales of Nomadic Limbo. Sunday, September 28, 2008. The Rock at Starvation. Last night I stayed with Anna. And I dined euphorically last night. Brad. The following posts will reflect my bicycle ride from Salt Lake City to North Carolina (or to Austin), related matters, and probably some random thoughts. The Salmon and Lemhi River valleys. Honey, I'm gonna show the boys the garden! If you're passing near Salmon, stay at Solaas and say hello to Roger. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Rock at Starvation.

The Bardo Notes: April 2012

http://thebardonotes.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 8, 2012. Seven Stanzas at Easter by John Updike. Make no mistake: if He rose at all
. It was as His body;
. If the cells’ dissolution did not reverse, the molecules
. Reknit, the amino acids rekindle,
. The Church will fall. It was not as the flowers,
. Each soft Spring recurrent;
. It was not as His Spirit in the mouths and fuddled
. Eyes of the eleven apostles;
. It was as His flesh: ours. The same hinged thumbs and toes,
. The same valved heart
. Regathered out of enduring Might
.

http://thebardonotes.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 23, 2009. See first Silvio post. Of absence and of you. Now the only thing left is for me to regain the. To avoid maps, to keep to myself. To avoid certain streets,. To forget that a certain book was once mine. Or to write a song. And tell you that everything's the same. The city, the friends, the sea. Waiting, because of you,. Waiting, because of you. I keep going to Tete's, week after week. You remember her place. Today she spoke of rifles dispatching dead men. I know she loves me.

The Bardo Notes: Lucho

http://thebardonotes.blogspot.com/2009/02/lucho-and-bardo.html

Friday, February 20, 2009. Lucho sang ballads in the middle of the last century. If you're of hispanic descent, your grandparents may have known him, and an even older song, "The Bardo." In Spanish, a bardo is something of a traveling poet, minstrel, or troubadour, a word no longer used commonly. The song is an old-fashioned tale of unrequited love. A simple tale of heartache resulting from unspoken emotion. A poor bardo fell in love. With a girl of high society. His life was that of an unhappy clown.

The Bardo Notes: Lillian

http://thebardonotes.blogspot.com/2009/05/lillian.html

Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Lillian conserved her world like a master gardener, with poise and order. She had a clear vision, encompassed by an indefinite border. She nurtured, careful to provide every need, knowing that growth is an art and a science. She smiled shyly, she laughed, sometimes nervously, always heartily. She grounded. She earthed. She flourished. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Bardo Notes: October 2008

http://thebardonotes.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 27, 2008. Her four children are raised and independent, and she is finishing her degree, planning to work as a play therapist. I'm not sure I knew much about play therapy. She described it as helping children work through issues or trauma through play. If the field hadn't existed, she might have invented it. Best case scenario, they are cooking up delicious vittles in their homes. Worst case, they subsist on spam and crisco. Monday, October 20, 2008. Michele is my older sister. She's ...

More Than a Conqueror. On another note, I am departing Tuesday, May 18 to serve in India for two weeks with my predecessor, Matthew. The Bard Next Door. Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Guild Wars 2 Review. Review by Daniel Nenadovic. Oi, it has been a long while since I wrote anything up for this here podcast blog site, hasn't it? But it's a testament to Guild Wars 2 that, despite all of the new awesome games, I keep coming back to it when I just want to have some fun. One big selling point? I've been playing it since release, and to put it simply: Guild Wars 2 is really fun. I'm not going to dive too far into details of the game her...

Skip to main content. Skip to primary sidebar. Skip to secondary sidebar. The Bard of Babel. Outside, a bunch of teenagers splash each other with water from a feature, a huge stone sphere that appears to float on the dais that supports it. Just the slightest touch sends it spinning, a metaphor perhaps for this town: a great concrete weight with no sense of itself. Bracknell like England is a truly postmodern phenomenon, rootless, individualised and drowning. So does it in fact matter? It’s a nice story &...

The Bard of Brooklyn. Empire Is Canceled: Why you SHOULDN’T be surprised. May 8, 2015. May 13, 2015. As I’m sure fans of Fox’s smash hit series Empire are aware, the record breaking family drama has been cancelled. 1 Fox is notoriously good and killing shows. If it appears on Fox, is a well written show and has a solid fan base then certainly it’s future is guaranteed, right? 2 Fox will drag your favorite show through the mud. 3 Renegotiation is an eventuality. I truly hope that Empire has a strong run a...
