Tales of a bike with no name. Donky ride →. Tales of a man with a bike with no name. May 23, 2013. So why ” the bastard Brompton ”? Well, my bike doesn’t have a name. i thought it a bit odd and a bit annoying when the Brompton website asked me what my bike was called when registering it. I know some people name theirs, and thats fine, whatever. i know a Brompton Bumble Bee, a Bromplet, great names for great bikes- but mine shall remain illegitimate. So I’ve been inspired to. Put pen to pape. I couldn&#82...

Obsession! – The Brompton Rat

https://thebromptonrat.wordpress.com/2013/06/10/obsession

June 10, 2013. Three weeks in to an eight to ten week wait (closer to eight, hopefully), and my obsession is growing. I think I’ve read every Brompton blog and every article related to the Brompton during the past three weeks! There is a lot of information on this little bike. I know I’ve made the right decision. I just wish the wait was not as long. Who knows, maybe I’ll attend the Brompton World Chamionship next year? It’s a thought… But, first things first, I need my Brompton! The Flat →.

The helmet arrived! – The Brompton Rat

https://thebromptonrat.wordpress.com/2013/06/02/the-helmet-arrived

June 2, 2013. My new helmet has arrived, but alas the Brompton is still on the other side of the pond. I’ve started searching the web for bags and luggage to accent the bike, as I plan to travel a little (or a lot) depending on my situation. The bike is still another six weeks away, so I’m looking for idea’s. Thus far I have found an interesting idea for increasing the size of the pedal without compromising the design mechanics of the folding mechanism. Bromfoot.com. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

June 2013 – The Brompton Rat

https://thebromptonrat.wordpress.com/2013/06

June 12, 2013. Taking advantage of this beautiful day, I decided to commute on two wheels instead of four. The round trip is approximately 21 miles, so it makes for a nice ride. I have another planned for this evening. A little shorter, so makes for a good “work” day ride. Of course my spare inner tube and all my bike tools were back home. Where else would they be, I was commuting, not out biking! So do I walk or ride with a flat. I reasoned on the latter. Should I be concerned? Be careful out there.

Bethpage to Jones Beach – The Brompton Rat

https://thebromptonrat.wordpress.com/2013/07/29/bethpage-to-jones-beach

July 29, 2013. Bethpage to Jones Beach. My first long trip on “Lizzy”. Bethpage State Park to Jones Beach and back. A distance of just over 28 miles. The weather conditions are perfect, low 80’s, high humidity and a strong headwind. Maybe I should rethink this as there is no shade once I hit the “Parkway”! The Brompton is certainly a different riding style for me. It’s going to be a learning experience. After a short rest at the beach (water, apple and a banana), It was time to head back. For the remaini...

Meet Elizabeth. Lizzy to her friends – The Brompton Rat

https://thebromptonrat.wordpress.com/2013/07/25/meet-elizabeth-lizzy-to-her-friends

Meet Elizabeth. Lizzy to her friends. First day of my new love affair. She arrived two weeks early to my surprise, and I’ve been riding her as much as possible since then. Peter at NYCe Wheels in Manhattan was very helpful and supportive making sure I was familiar with all aspects of folding and un-folding, plus the general operation of the bike. An engineering marvel! Two weeks ahead of schedule – The Brompton Rat

https://thebromptonrat.wordpress.com/2013/07/17/two-weeks-ahead-of-schedule

July 17, 2013. Two weeks ahead of schedule. It’s arrived, and two weeks ahead of schedule! I finally get to pick up “Elizabeth” (my queen) this Saturday. I know it’s Wednesday, but unfortunately work is keeping me from heading into the city to NYCe Wheels until then. My maiden trip will be around Central Park, then down to Myers Of Keswick to pick up a pork pie or two! Why not, I say. You can take the Englishman out of England, but it’s very difficult to take the English from his soul.
