Tuesday, 14 April 2009. Flew to Italy today for a few days training with Ceri. He lives in a town in the North called Ispra. Perfect training country with plenty of great cycling and running routes – lakes too although a bit early in the season for swimming. Haven’t seen my brother for a while so looking forward to a top few days. I hear he's carrying a bit of an injury at the mo' so we might even spend a bit of time together on the bike too. Friday, 17 April 2009. Final ride of the trip to Italy this morning. A 51k. Ride with a fair bit of climbing and great weather for the third day on the trot. Pushed the ride total for the trip up to 10:15 hours. And with a final run this afternoon to boot, we did 11:15 hours. Training in three days. I've been taking my. Supplements and H30 Pro. Drink regularly though and feel pretty good. Possibly not the best preparation for Sunday's Bath Half Marathon. But I definitely needed the hours on the bike.

Thursday, 26 February 2009. I'd had a few mechanical problems on my bike during yesterday's ride, so Jonty and Lee gave it the once over before we set off at 10am this morning. Or at least that's what they said they were doing. To be fair, it felt loads better and I was able to reduce speed without performing the grip-strength test on my brake levers, so instant improvement. Friday, 17 April 2009. Top weather for the Bath Half. Makes a nice change not freezing your bits off waiting for the start or after the finish. I started off pretty conservatively, having not done enough run training recently and possibly feeling the effects of the Italian training camp. I went through 10k in 43:24. And stayed with that pace up until the 10 mile point. Felt pretty strong though and picked up the pace for the finish, to cross the line in 1:28:55. Now on October 4th.

Tough session but I felt good and had a fair bit of gas. Definitely one of the best run sessions I've had this year. Had a wicked time today at the Big Adventure Store. Friday, 17 April 2009. Trouble-free trip to Italy yesterday evening and arrived in Ispra. With my trusty Trek for an evening meal with Ceri and Cath. Little later than planned setting off on our bike ride this morning as I had to change the brake pads on my bike so I could use my 303s. Definitely a good move though as today's ride totalled 2260m of ascent. Probably would have been a bit more too but we had to turn round before the top of the highest climb. 20 reps of just under 100m.

Tuesday, 21 April 2009. Well yesterday's ride did nothing for easing my stiff calves. Tight as ever tonight so I was pretty glad to be running at all at the club session. Coach Alan was fairly easy on us as a bunch of us had done the Bath Half. He gave us a 20 minute parlouf. Relay after our normal warm-up which was reasonably tough but manageable and probably about right. James Hart cruised past me on every set, confirming he's in a different league at the mo'.
