Célébration Bastille brumeux |

Road, mountain, whatever. The FR Fuggitivi ascribes to the Italian cycling ethos: ride for enjoyment, look good while doing it, and the quality of the coffee stop is as important as the Strava data. But once a year, we channel our inner Bobet, pull on our French cycling kits, stumble through the high school french expressions we’ve somehow manage to retain and head up. For us, a mountain stage means Mt. Seymour; 1000 metres of elevation over 13 kilometres. Richard channels his inner Virenque. While the m...
Wind beneath my cleats |

Road, mountain, whatever. Wind beneath my cleats. I’ve got a need for speed. Usually I’m only able to indulge it on descents. Today I aired it out on the flats. With a little help from the breeze at my back. Or maybe it was a gale. Overnight the wind howled, flailing our blinds, spinning our patio umbrella. Further afield, it knocked out power, tore branches from trees. This morning it was still blowing with purpose. Usually I cower from riding on windy days. Laquo; Cycling for passion, not fashion.

Road, mountain, whatever. Adventures in TV viewing. Hello, it must be Tuesday. Or maybe it’s Wednesday? If you’re setting your clock by the cycling coverage on Sportsnet, it’s easy to get confused. The European cycling season has started in earnest. For the past few years we’ve actually been able to watch many of the races on TV. Sportsnet’s on-air guide says it’s showing Tirreno-Adriatico, but instead I’m watching cricket highlights. It’s a bit of a gong show. And thoroughly frustrating. For too long cy...

Road, mountain, whatever. Enjoying the view from Dad World. Being a dad was never one of the overriding goals of my life. For most of my adult life, fatherhood wasn’t even on my radar. I hadn’t met the right partner. I had plenty of other interests and activities to occupy my time and attention. I was scared. Then along came Princess of Pavement. And she thought it would be cool to have a kid. Admittedly I got into the game pretty late. The patterns and rhythms of my life were well-entrenched. I have no ...

Road, mountain, whatever. June is Bike Month; July is cycling month. June is Bike Month. But July is cycling month. It’s the month when Le Tour takes over the TV; the news and other regular programming goes unwatched. It’s the month of long days and longer rides. It’s the month of big mileage, sore legs, new routes. Here’s something you don’t see on every ride; a bear in the city! Last year, July was a bit of a letdown. This year I was determined to right that ship. I think it’s about time. In 2008, with...

Finally! North to Alaska (Part 1 of 2) | Life With No Fixed Address

Life With No Fixed Address. Two People … Eighteen Wheels … Seven Continents. North to Alaska (Part 1 of 2). May 4, 2016. May 4, 2016. Latitude 63.3367 N. To a truck driver, the Haul Road to the Arctic Ocean is North America’s final frontier. But since I’m a not-really-trucking kind of truck driver, crossing the Yukon into Alaska is mine. The best office window in the world is in my tractor. We spent the night in a pullout and woke up to this scene — Matanuska Glacier. Built in eight months during the Sec...

Thoughts on a bike: December 2011
http://thoughtsonabike.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 15, 2011. I haven't been riding much. Been doing too much running! 16 miles each week for the last 2 weeks. I really love running. Maybe I should change the name of the blog! This was my view during my 8 mile long run last Saturday. ARBT. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Curtis Corlew in Bicycle Land. Rules of the Amateur UnPro Cyclist. Simple template. Thoughts on a bike: November 2011
http://thoughtsonabike.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 28, 2011. Runs, rides, etc. etc. It's a time to relax and just enjoy. No cycling events to train for or travel to. No stress. I just have been riding nowadays and doing quite a bit of running. More running than riding actually. There was an Elvis sighting! It's the 10k for me from now on. Rode 50 miles last Friday with the WAV Riders. It was a great ride. We rode a pace line on the way back and I loved it. I was on my Surly too! And I've been thinking of running more now than cycling.
Thoughts on a bike: September 2011

Saturday, September 17, 2011. Local cycling events are the best. No long car rides. No hotels. Just get up in the morning, drive a couple of miles and ride! This is my second year to ride the Gold Rush Century events hosted by Folsom Cyclebration. http:/ www.folsomcyclebration.com/. Today was a perfect day for a ride. Forecasted to be a high of mid 80s, the day started out cool but as usual, after the first climb to Beals, we warmed up fast. Our day started out at the Folsom Library / Zoo at 52 Natoma St.
Running on carbs: May 2015
http://celineparent.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
A blog about running, diabetes and life. Friday, May 29, 2015. Off to the Endo I go. I've uploaded the last month's worth of CGM data from Rose. I've printed a summary of that data. Complete with pretty colours, pie charts and graphs. I've breathed a sigh of relief after seeing how lovely my average blood glucose stats were. I then proudly saddle up beside Doug to show him so he could express his delight (or at least make supportive sounds as I clicked through the pages of data). It's that time again.
Running on carbs: Not Much Help
http://celineparent.blogspot.com/2015/05/not-much-help.html
A blog about running, diabetes and life. Wednesday, May 6, 2015. I went to the Diabetes Centre on Monday, armed with 7 days worth of food logs printed from My Fitness Pal and a few weeks' worth of pre and post workout blood pressure readings. I had my list of questions. My doctor recommended that I take a supplement" I said. "I will if I need to but, if I'm getting 100% of my daily calcium from my diet, is that enough? Opinion, should I take a calcium supplement on top of the calcium I get in my diet?

Lactate Intolerant
May 31, 2010. Well, after three months with nothing to write about I had my first decent result, so I figured I'd better say something. For whatever reason, Memorial Day weekend is synonymous with a big weekend of criteriums. In Iowa, its the Quad Cities. In NYC, its the Tour of Somerville. The Bound Brook Crit is day 3, Sunday, in central New Jersey. A pretty straight forward flat six corner race, just my type! Finally updated by Karl. Feb 15, 2010. BIke Snob stepping up? That's right, our very own BSNYC.
