The Blue-collar Birder: August 2009

http://www.thebluecollarbirder.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Field observations and thoughts from a birder located in Upstate New York. Sunday, August 23, 2009. AUGUST 23 - PARTRIDGE RUN WMA. The morning started out warm and humid with a light rain falling. I couldn't resist going out and seeing what was going on. August can be a month full of interesting finds when it comes to birds, the past few trips out into the field certainly proved that. I stayed close to home today and birded the Partridge Run area of Berne. It was lightly raining at this point and it woul...

The Blue-collar Birder: September 2009

http://www.thebluecollarbirder.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Field observations and thoughts from a birder located in Upstate New York. Sunday, September 27, 2009. SUNDAY 9/27 AT FIVE RIVERS. One of the first birds I spotted at daybreak was this Wilson's Warbler. They are very active and this one was no exception. It disappeared very quickly. Once I started walking the trails, it didn't take long to realize that something interesting was going on. The first thing I noticed was that there were a lot of Palm Warblers "chipping" and wagging their tails. A Bay-breaste...

The Blue-collar Birder: CACKLING GOOSE IN RENSSELAERVILLE

http://www.thebluecollarbirder.blogspot.com/2011/10/cackling-goose-in-rensselaerville.html

Field observations and thoughts from a birder located in Upstate New York. Sunday, October 2, 2011. CACKLING GOOSE IN RENSSELAERVILLE. So there I was, cruising down the highway in the Town of Rensselaerville when I spotted a flock of geese in a recently harvested corn field. The two Snow Geese that were there had caught my eye so I decided to get out and take a look at them. The fact that these birds were on dry land made it even easier to compare the size difference. The Blue-collar Birder: February 2010

http://www.thebluecollarbirder.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Field observations and thoughts from a birder located in Upstate New York. Sunday, February 14, 2010. A large bird powered off the ground from a field full of saplings as I passed a farm. Even with just a quick glance while driving there was no doubt as to what it was. I was very happy to discover that my vehicle is still able to come to a very rapid, screeching stop and was out the door in an instant. It then perched in the woods behind someones house. Now that's a good yardbird! This Rough-legged Hawk ...

2013 NYS Region 8 Big Year. The Birds of Eastern New York. The tales of an Upstate NY Birder. The First Chase of Big Year 2013. January 11, 2013. A few days ago a local birder on his way home from work, noticed 2 odd shapes next to a little patch of water along the north shore of the Mohawk River in Crescent, Saratoga County. The birds were just within the lights of a local Tavern and in this dim light, he could make out that they were 2 Sandhill Cranes. The next day more birders showed up, but the Cranes.

2013 NYS Region 8 Big Year. The Birds of Eastern New York. The tales of an Upstate NY Birder. A (late) Red Phased Eastern Screech Owl. October 24, 2012. Are fairly common here in Eastern New York, they can be found in most lower elevation areas, especially away from the deeper forests (and Great Horned Owls. They are particularly at home in suburban yards and even venture into the City of Albany at times. More often that not I find these birds in winter in empty Wood Duck. Whenever I see a Wood Duck.

Location), but that its just a neat spot. A view towards Albany from the Upper Holt Preserve, Coeymans, New York. September 2012 – by William Raup. This entry was posted in Albany.
