Literally Lori: October 2014
http://lorrainebeatty.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 1, 2014. The ACFW conference in St Louis is over and I’m home and trying to recuperate. It’s a fun, informative and exciting time, but it usually takes me a couple of days to rest up and downshift from all the energy that flows through the hotel. This year was especially nice since I didn’t need any appointments with editors or agents, or first meetings with my representatives. So I could hang around and visit with old friends and make new ones. My little circle of friends all had good...

Literally Lori: September 2013
http://lorrainebeatty.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 17, 2013. You Won't Believe What I did at the ACFW Conference! I laughed. I cried. I was lifted up by the keynote speaker who reminded us what our gifts and our journeys are all about. I was served by hotel staff that always smiled, always helped, and worked overtime to make sure our stay was perfection. I was blessed beyond words. And you say you can’t afford to go to conference? You can’t afford NOT to. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Follow Lorraine on Pinterest. View my complete profile.

Literally Lori: May 2013
http://lorrainebeatty.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Starting a New Book. It’s time to start a new book which means I have to create a hero and heroine with problems and make them fall in love in two hundred pages. First thing I have to do is figure out who He and She are. What do they look like? Is their hair blond or brunette? Blue eyes or brown? Dimples or crooked grin? What are their personalities and their quirks? Are they shy, charming, distant? Sigh It’s a long list. What happened in his past that made him that way? How can t...

Thursday, August 21, 2014. Just an Ordinary Pot. We’ve all heard the term, “Winning is everything.” While it might not be everything. It’s awards season in the publishing world – the time when the hundreds of contests held each year announce their winners. Winning an award can boost your career up several notches, especially if it’s a prestigious one. Some authors seem to win them by the truck loads. Nearly every book they write wins some kind of award. So what do I do? I am content with my productivity&...

Literally Lori: Three Questions to Ensure Conflict
http://lorrainebeatty.blogspot.com/2014/01/three-questions-to-ensure-conflict.html
Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Three Questions to Ensure Conflict. Ask any editor the main reason submissions are rejected and they will tell you - lack of conflict. My editors at Love Inspired tweet about it frequently, speakers expound on it. Books delve into it and seminars go on for hours about its importance. So how do you build in conflict from the start? Make sure you can answer these three questions before you start writing your book. Why are Hero and Heroine the worst for each other? Set a timer on...

Tuesday, September 14, 2010. The Legacy of Reading. No, it's not because I celebrate one of those milestone birthdays next week. Well, maybe a little. I substituted most of the summer in the library were I worked as a children's librarian for twenty years. After ten years it was a joy to be back in familiar surroundings with memories in every nook and cranny. You probably don't remember me but I came to your storytime when I was a child. Do you still have Lucy (storytime puppet)? I've enjoyed seeing the ...
