The Bread Maiden

Monday, March 9, 2015. Bread Camp, Round II. This past Saturday, I hosted a group of five women from the church book club. At my house and taught them my tricks and techniques for making bread. I call it Bread Camp. These are my notes after the first round of Bread Camp. this time the handout was 5 pages long! I didn't know. It took me a while to figure out just what I had done. Part of teaching is learning to teach, and this was a great "learning to teach" moment for me. Why was I so nervous? Here is on...

http://thebreadmaiden.blogspot.com/2012/06/banana-bread-with-fresh-cherries.html

Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Banana Bread with Fresh Cherries. The farmers market in Del Ray has been wonderful for the past few weeks. Tons of berries, gorgeous tomatoes, and beans! I haven't been able to resist buying a few pepper plants, and gerber daisies to put in the garden as well. Cucumbers. from a long ago garden! Until I pick one off and give it to him. The Bread Maiden: Jamaican Black Cake

http://thebreadmaiden.blogspot.com/2011/12/jamaican-black-cake.html

Wednesday, December 21, 2011. The past few years, Slow Learner (actually Mr. Bread Maiden's mother) and I have been celebrating Christmas by baking a batch of fruitcake. Fruitcake, if you don't know, is that much-maligned dessert bread chock full of fruit, nuts, spices, and a whole lotta alcohol. When you think (or, before meeting Mr. Bread Maiden's kin, what I THOUGHT) of fruitcake looked something like this:. Http:/ whatscookingamerica.net/Q-A/fruitcakesec.htm. I found a recipe for Jamaican Black Cake,...

The Bread Maiden: Using up cooked barley

http://thebreadmaiden.blogspot.com/2014/07/using-up-cooked-barley.html

Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Using up cooked barley. I live for a good summer salad. One that you can just throw together and eat for dinner on a hot summer night when the last thing you want to do is stand over a hot grill or stove. Fresh Vegetables Crumbly or Soft Cheese Herb Olive Oil and Vinegar Salt and Pepper. Pretty easy, right? Sometimes I'll throw in a cooked grain such as wheat berries or barley to give the salad some added heft, which is what I did for our church's after-worship fellowship hour.

The Bread Maiden: Bread Maiden FAQs

http://thebreadmaiden.blogspot.com/p/bread-maiden-faqs.html

I'll be adding more Frequently Asked Questions and Answers as I get them. Q1: The #1 question I get asked is, where did you get the name "Bread Maiden"? A1: To begin, I have one of those "Ayden" names that are cool to hate right now. Back in grad school, our friends used to come up with funny nicknames for each other. I didn't have a nickname yet and was giving another friend a hard time about it, when ON THE SPOT he came up with The Bread Maiden. I loved it! A2: Yes I do! I'm always interested in trying...

I'm learning that it isn't that hard to come up with low-carb meals. And I don't feel deprived when we allow ourselves to have bread and starch in the daytime. The Bread Machine's Apprentice. A girl, a bread machine and wheat storage. What could possibly go wrong? Why I’m Apprenticing…. Want Not, Waste Not. I’ve been wasteful with my bread lately. Lately as in since my last nephew moved out. I’m stuck on the idea that I need to make the big loaf of my bread machine because I am a big person, my mom is a bit fluffy as well and, well, wheat bread is good for you. Right? Update: Her Dark Materials. 15 cups warm water/1.5 cups warm water. 1 tsp salt/1 tsp salt.

Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Chocolate Orange Pumpkin Bread. This easy pumpkin bread recipe scented with orange and filled with chopped chocolate is a winner. When buying canned pumpkin, make sure you buy the can with "pure pumpkin" on the label and not one that says "pie mix" or that already has spices mixed in. For the chocolate, we love using a dark chocolate, but milk or white chocolate would also be delicious. No fancy equipment, very few dishes to clean and only minutes in the kitchen. In a large b...
