These are some of the books I would recommend. Julie Duff’s Cakes, Regional and Traditional, 2005. A wonderful book made up of recipes from all over the place, including historic recipes. Julie has tried out many old cake recipes and is sharing with us some of the best. Interesting discussion on the history of each cake with the recipes. A must have for anyone interested in cakes! Victory cakes – part 1. I am currently searching for Victory cakes or ‘after war’ recipes published in wartime cookery books. So far I have baked one from the booklet ‘181 Attractive Recipes From the kitchen’s of Halifax ladies’ that was published to raise funds for the AVF or Friends of the French Volunteers during the Second World War.
