The Chattering Crow

Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Today I'm closeting myself to write the wedding ceremony. I have notes and quotes but no final draft. Today is Edmund's birthday. He is 45. We celebrate Friday night. I'm going to call him Edmund for the rest of my life. It worked the first 14 years. Today my bed linens are clean. Today we're eating breakfast at McDonald's. Maybe all week. Today I will probably not finish Plato's Phaedo. It argues for a soul. Today the sun is shining. Everything is shining. Not going to read i...

The Chattering Crow: Calling the government and getting no answer

http://thechatteringcrow.blogspot.com/2015/07/calling-government-and-getting-no-answer.html

Friday, July 31, 2015. Calling the government and getting no answer. I hate making phone calls, but then there are ones I have put off too long, so I make myself a big post-it-note and stick it on my lamp as a must do for the following day. THE ONE THING I MUST DO! If this is some kind of sign, I refuse to acknowledge it. I tried getting a new card through the internet, but Social Security didn't want to recognize me or my passwords. If I had trouble, the site said, I should call this number. I cannot un...

The Chattering Crow: Tom and I try to go home again

http://thechatteringcrow.blogspot.com/2015/07/tom-and-i-try-to-go-home-again.html

Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Tom and I try to go home again. Capital Church: 10th East and 7th South. Anyway, we wanted to see the inside. We hoped the chapel was similar with those white varnished benches. Teenagers and college students sat on the left side in the back. It was a great ward in the fifties and sixties. The band was tuning up as we sat down: Three electric guitars, one piano, one electronic keyboard and a huge set of drums inside a plexiglass room of its own. The room filled up and the me...

http://thechatteringcrow.blogspot.com/2015/08/yesterday-tom-and-i-went-to-hear-tab.html

Monday, August 3, 2015. Yesterday, Tom and I went to hear the Tab Choir at their Sunday morning broadcast. The choir sang well- nothing very stirring- but Andrew Unsworth- pulled out all the stops and played something phenomenal. What was it? Was it the Widor Toccata? I don't think so. But it was splashy and we were bound to our seats. When he finished, there was a smattering of loud clapping, which surprised him and he took a bow. Posted by Louise Plummer. August 3, 2015 at 7:00 PM. Just yesterday, I wa...

The Chattering Crow: Portrait of my mother: a list

http://thechatteringcrow.blogspot.com/2015/05/portrait-of-my-mother-list.html?showComment=1431262661586

Saturday, May 9, 2015. Portrait of my mother: a list. Mother in her teens. She was the sixth child of ten. She played soccer as well as the boys. She could juggle three oranges. She wanted to go on to be a teacher, but her father couldn’t afford to send her on for teacher training, so she became a domestic. (Only the brothers got trained for employment). Once she rode her bike home smoking pastel, lady cigarettes. She could beat anyone arm wrestling. She was named after the first twin, who died: Geert.

Not as much knitting as crocheting). Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Thirteen things I love about Mikay. 1 She plays the oboe. 2 She's a "friend for babies," and she always has been. 3 She is sarcastic in a funny way. 4 Even though she has been sick most of this school year, she still managed to land herself on the honor roll. 4 She is happy. 5 She chooses her friends well. 7 Mikay genuinely cares about people. 8 She is dedicated - to her family, to her friends, to her schoolwork, and to God. 11 She is kind.

Not as much knitting as crocheting). Saturday, February 25, 2012. Finally, I have an inhaler good enough to be able to do this hike. It was pretty much the only thing on my bucket list. Maybe I should try and think up some other stuff, but I feel fulfilled in a wonderful way. Looking up at the arch from directly beneath it. To give you an idea of how huge it is,. Check out the people underneath. My sister, her kids, my kids, and some random other people). Links to this post. Labels: out of town. Left Beh...

ant knit: October 2011

http://antknit.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Not as much knitting as crocheting). Thursday, October 27, 2011. I made a lion for a friend who had a baby. Then I decided to make a blanket to match. It can't be too hard to find cute lion flannel, can it? I looked at a few too many stores (oh, I don't love shopping), and spent more than I wanted to, but in the end, I think it turned out well. Next time, I'll find cute flannel then. Make a toy to match. I hope he's happy in his new home. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A Garden of Cakes.

Not as much knitting as crocheting). Sunday, September 18, 2011. The school issued netbooks for 7th and 8th graders (not really sure why 9th graders were not included, seems a bit backwards to give them only to the younger kids, but whatever). So, for my 7th grader, I made a bag like the iPad bag and the small bag made to be like the iPad bag. Links to this post. Saturday, September 17, 2011. Now I'm working on another similar bag for my daughter's laptop, which she has to have for school every day.

Not as much knitting as crocheting). Thursday, July 28, 2011. This pic was taken at her 100th bday party in 2009. Rest in peace, Mrs. Jones. We loved you. One night last month as I was putting Tessa to bed she told me, "Mom, the Bible says if you obey your mom and dad you'll live a long and happy life. Well, I think Mrs. Jones must've been very. Good at that.". Links to this post. Thursday, July 21, 2011. Less than a week before her 8th birthday. Links to this post. Thursday, July 07, 2011. Bugs in a bag.

ant knit: are you kidding me, yahoo?

http://antknit.blogspot.com/2011/12/are-you-kidding-me-yahoo.html

Not as much knitting as crocheting). Monday, December 12, 2011. Are you kidding me, yahoo? Yahoo has an article up right now with a picture of this mixer claiming it is among the gifts men should not give their women. Seriously? Personally, I would die for this mixer. Well, perhaps die is a little dramatic. At any rate, who wouldn't adore this yummy, yellow mixer? Please don't take yahoo's advice. Also, I would like a new crock pot. I know, right? Ill even help you with ideas! 12/12/11, 3:57 PM. The Full...

ant knit: Thanksgiving

http://antknit.blogspot.com/2011/11/thanksgiving-feast.html

Not as much knitting as crocheting). Thursday, November 24, 2011. I've shared this poem before. I know. But, I love it. I've been listening to my 12-year-old practice committing it to memory all week. "Thanksgiving Feasts" has been recited at my family's Thanksgiving table for longer than I have been alive. Oh, and meet Tom. He's for my mama. 8220;Thanksgiving feasts,” O’Hara said,. 8220;Thanksgivings like this here. Ain’t nothin’ to the one I et. In Wardleburg one year. Slack-stomached for the feast,.

300 · Tree in a backpack. Another from my latest trip to Milan, this spring. I stood in the main square of the new Porta Nuova district, waiting for passersby to walk into the sunset reflected from the skyscrapers.
