The Cheerful Oncologist: December 2004

http://thecheerfuloncologist.blogspot.com/2004_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 31, 2004. New Year's Eve with Friends. The halls are quiet today. I can hear my footsteps tapping on the tile as I make my way around the wards. All but two of my patients have managed to rally enough to escape, thus avoiding one of the most stale and depressing celebrations ever offered in a hospital - New Year's Eve. This was the last year I was alive.". These friends, you see, were my patients - now gone. Posted by Herr Doktor @ 7:30 PM. Tuesday, December 28, 2004. I now realized all ...

The Cheerful Oncologist: November 2004

http://thecheerfuloncologist.blogspot.com/2004_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 22, 2004. Death of a Colleague. While attending a meeting recently I ran into a doctor from the university where I completed my medical oncology training. He filled me in about the professors we both knew, and then I inquired as to how an old pal from the fellowship years was doing - pretty routine chit-chat up to this point. The reply I got stopped me in mid-breath: "He died two years ago.". I was told that my colleague, who had trained in medical oncology with me, had died of. A profou...

Another trip to the City. On Sunday, Mr Civil Servant came and picked up kidlet for an outing with his family. They went fossil-hunting on a peninsula. Mostly known for its museums. But it also offers plenty of outdoor opportunities. The hunt resulted in half a trilobite. But other than that, they had an outdoor barbecue, tossed stones into the water and the children had a good time - which of course was the point of it all! Afterwards. All the adults and children will have fun together at the slope.

Important notice on communication. Just a few words:. Please, do NOT use our landline number to call us - especially not in the (local) daytime. This is because our current number used to belong to the local pharmacy and we are extremely fed up with people calling us asking for flu shots. (Also considering getting caller ID.). E-mail: My preferred mode of communication at the moment. I may not reply at once or possible even at all (nothing new there, I'm afraid, ah, the guilt). Comments: Post a Comment.

http://graybar.blogspot.com/2005/03/preparing-for-invasion.html

Preparing for the invasion. Sigh* More humble pie coming up for me. I'm afraid. I've stated quite forcefully in the past to hubby that I don't want outside help coming into the house, like a home nurse or home helper. The reason for this is I don't want our house, our HOME! To become a workplace or an institution. Famous last words and all that. And the doctor at the hospice and I have, after a round of talks, agreed that I should have a home nurse come in for a talk (for starters). All of us would wish ...

For what seems like the longest while now, my left leg has been aching and painful and difficult to walk with. This has in turn led to me limping and hobbling in order to get around. And THAT has, again, given me a quite bad backache because I have been straining the muscles in my lower back. So now I crutch around the house, even to cover just the three metres from chair to table or the longer distance from chair to kitchen. And it doesn't feel all bad. In fact, it's helped already - my back doe...All t...

The Cheerful Pessimist

Thursday, March 20, 2008. Not sure what my style is. I don't have a particual type, the key is that we hit it off and take it from there. I am looking for a man who has his act together: career, health, social life and finances. Traits I do look for are assertiveness, honesty, openess, responsibility, intelligence and athleticism. Must be a non-smoker and must not be a back seat banger. Monday, March 10, 2008. My first try at this. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Not sure what my style is.

The Cheerful Philistine | Happy Thoughts for Happy People

Happy Thoughts for Happy People. The Media and Why We Hate It. March 9, 2011. There is a tension, which I believe a great many people feel, between loyalty to democracy on the one hand, and skepticism about what democracy sometimes leads to, on the other. What I mean is that even the most heartfelt believers in majority rule sometimes feel doubts, even if they go unexpressed, about the wisdom of the people to choose their rulers. How are these contradictory impulses justified? But how it is. I do not use...
