December | 2013 | The Children's Librarian
https://thechildrenslibrarian.wordpress.com/2013/12
The Children's Librarian. Archive for December, 2013. What I have read recently,. Another cute story by children’s author Doreen Cronin. Children get to move with this book and explore the creative ways in which we can stretch. My pre-k students love Stretch, Wiggle, and Bounce. It’s Hard to be Five. By Jamie Lee Curtis. Louella Mae, She’s Run Awa. Y by Karen Beaumont Alarcón. Students love this rhyming book and are very surprised to find out where Louella Mae has hidden and why. Very fun! Dystopian view...

The Children's Librarian. Archive for May, 2015. How Many Books Are Enough? As I am putting together my year end collection analysis I am contemplating changing my books per student ratio. In this day and age I feel the old standard of 12:1 is too small to meet the changing reader needs. I have PreKIndergarten to Fourth grades and my students read from pre-primer to high school levels. I am not sure I can justify that ratio and I am not certain my library could hold that number of books! I really donR...

January | 2014 | The Children's Librarian
https://thechildrenslibrarian.wordpress.com/2014/01
The Children's Librarian. Archive for January, 2014. I have been reading books to my PreK and Kindergarten students. Big surprise. The authors all have last names that begin with the letter D. This week I read a great book to them called Sody Salleratus by Aubrey Davis. Yep, and squirrel goes last to find Old Woman, Old Man, Girls and Boy only to discover the bear and his boasting at eating them all. Sunday Reflections: Goals for my Readers. Good place to find books for rising 5th graders. March 29, 2016.
February | 2014 | The Children's Librarian
https://thechildrenslibrarian.wordpress.com/2014/02
The Children's Librarian. Archive for February, 2014. Wonderfully sweet tales of an older sister teacher her beloved and exasperating little brother about life all around them. My students enjoyed the silliness of the stories and even helped Stella answer all of Sam’s questions, such as, “Do parrotfish swim? Or do they fly and squawk? Sunday Reflections: Goals for my Readers. Good place to find books for rising 5th graders. How Many Books Are Enough? Makerspaces, Participatory Learning, and Libraries.

The Children's Librarian. Sunday Reflections: Goals for my Readers. August 9, 2015. Originally posted on There's a Book for That. One thing that became very clear to me in May was that assessment that has to be done for the sake of files, records and funding often makes me frustrated. But this is not a post about the assessment that I must do. Instead I want to think about the goals I have for my students as readers so that I can be clear about certain things. What can we celebrate? June 20, 2015. As I a...
