Living quietly in the country. November 12, 2016. November 12, 2016. This fellow is not easy to photograph. He has been hanging around quite awhile by the back fence. As soon as I pay too much attention, he flies away. Today I was inside, and tried to take a photo from the bay window. Living quietly in the country. Chickadee watching and bracken hunting. October 2, 2016. October 2, 2016. For an hour this afternoon I escaped up the hill to visit an overgrown ex-potato farm. No bears in sight. I was looking for beautiful autumn leaf colours but found only what I think is bracken fern, changed from its summer green to variations of light gold, rust and beige. Very pretty against the bright mossy grass. Chickadee on a pole. Chickadee in the sunflowers. Computer (and quilting) weather.

Dinner was raw mushrooms and raw onions with lukewarm buckwheat (cooked a half hour before). I added an orange, and half a tin of sardines for protein, quickly placing the unused ones in the dark silent refrigerator. Much tastier than it sounds. Sunny days are mighty rare around here right now A few days back there was enough sunshine to tempt me to hike a little farther than usual in order to find some really pretty trees.
