The ordinary photographer and traveller. Yorkshire Three Peaks: Pen-y-ghent. Is that why people say university is the best time of your life? So, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge? Nope Climb Yorkshire’s three highest peaks in 12 hours for those who doesn’t know about the challenge. It was the first time Rosie and I were doing it, so why rush it and miss a great opportunity to capture the Yorkshire Dales! I really can’t hype Leeds enough and setting up camp at Holme Farm. Quick review of Holme Farm: A ...

Wast Water on Film – The Common Passenger
https://laurencescapes.wordpress.com/2016/10/23/wast-water-on-film
The ordinary photographer and traveller. Wast Water on Film. I can take plenty of attempts to get the ‘shot’ kind of contradicts what I said in my post. I can reuse my memory cards film is expensive. I have like 16 rolls of undeveloped film in my fridge at the moment because I’m broke…. I can tell instantly if my equipment is failing: as you will see, some of my photos have light leaks shame this didn’t show up on my test roll (previous post. 2x Fujifilm Provia 100F. 2x Fujiilm Pro 400H. Making our way a...

Hiking Yorkshire: Malham – The Common Passenger
https://laurencescapes.wordpress.com/2016/07/20/hiking-yorkshire-malham
The ordinary photographer and traveller. Falling behind a bit (a lot I mean) with my write ups (graduation, finding a place to live for September etc) and this will be my last one for a few weeks, as I travel to Hong Kong and Japan! So Malham. Ah yes, what is the best way to celebrate the end of finals? A 25km (43446 steps according to my iPhone. A new record! Better weather I guess, but it gave me an excuse to try out my new raincoat! Yes I was excited). Sheep somewhere along the Pennine Bridleway.

Entering Medium Format – The Common Passenger
https://laurencescapes.wordpress.com/2016/10/20/entering-medium-format
The ordinary photographer and traveller. The university’s darkroom wasn’t the tidiest of places nor the warmest, but it was place where I could retreat and be in peace a tiny room at the top of the union. Having booked out the room on the society’s page, I was certain I was going to have that walk-in freezer to myself and be able relax after a day of dissertation! But, no. Someone was in there. Who did this guy think he was, not adhering to the booking rules? Why am I telling you all of this? I was given...

Yorkshire Three Peaks: Ingleborough – The Common Passenger
https://laurencescapes.wordpress.com/2016/09/28/yorkshire-three-peaks-ingleborough
The ordinary photographer and traveller. Yorkshire Three Peaks: Ingleborough. For me, I want to be able to go outdoors/travel (yeah everyone’s dreams I know, but basically I don’t just want to be glued to a computer 9-5), be part of a team that can work well together and is sociable/welcoming, and something that is creative. Right, moping and ‘philosophy’ lesson over. Looking back at Pen-y-ghent. Somewhere on Sulber Nick. The summit in sight-ish… clouds descending. With lunch over we headed back down via...

Yorkshire Three Peaks: Whernside – The Common Passenger
https://laurencescapes.wordpress.com/2016/10/17/yorkshire-three-peaks-whernside
The ordinary photographer and traveller. Yorkshire Three Peaks: Whernside. The final instalment of this ‘series’: Whernshide, the highest peak in the Yorkshire Dales standing tall at 736m. Already not doing the challenge, what better way to continue the trend than to take the train from Horton-in-Ribblesdale to Ribblehead! Quick’ pit-stop at the top for food and to admire the stunning views of Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough and back down we go! Hope he made it back in time. First HDR photo I have done̷...

November 2016 – The Common Passenger
https://laurencescapes.wordpress.com/2016/11
The ordinary photographer and traveller. Film: Views from Scafell Pike and Yewbarrow. Not really sure what happened to this roll (expired 2004 – Fujifilm NPC 160) I have no idea what the brownish streaks along both vertical edges are if anyone has any ideas please drop a comment below! Oh well, what’s done is done. I do like how the fadedness makes it look quite gloomy and moody. Continue reading “Film: Views from Scafell Pike and Yewbarrow”. November 6, 2016. The ordinary photographer and traveller. Discovering Yorkshire: Harrogate (and An Update on Life). Back from my trip around Hong Kong and Japan (posts I am anticipating a lot. Seriously a lot. We* did loads. to come in the near future) and life is about to get serious. I start my graduate job a week today in Cambridge, but I am not sure whether I am excited or super nervous to start! It genuinely feels like this summer, my last true long holiday for the foreseeable future, has flown by! Jumping back to J...

The ordinary photographer and traveller. Eskdale: Gateway to Wast Water. Oops seems like I have been off the grid for a while Well lets get back into a routine with the series of Wast Water posts! Who knew England could be so pretty? Ah yes, so why Wast Water? Here are my reasons:. Apparently UK’s best view;. It would involve camping and hiking;. It’s convenient-ish to get to by public transport;. It’s also not too convenient to get to. Tent set up and bags dumped, time to explore the area! Fill in your ...
