Short stories and thoughtful thoughts. Bart Simpson vs. Christianity. Brother Faith: When I was your age, I was a hellraiser, too. My slingshot was my cross. But I saw the light, and changed my wicked ways. Bart: I think Ill go for the life of sin, followed by a presto-change-o deathbed repentance. Brother Faith: Wow, thats a good angle. But thats not Gods angle. Taken from http:/ www.snpp.com/episodes/BABF06). When I watched this episode many years ago, I didnt know how to answer that question.

Sky and Field: September 2013
http://skyandfield.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Short stories and thoughtful thoughts. The subject of Christians dating people who are not Christians is one to be careful with. It probably doesnt help that the subject only ever seems to be raised when someone is doing it and someone else wants to tell them why it is wrong. Both sides of the argument about whether it is OK or not refer to a few bits in the Bible, sometimes the same ones! Read the Full Post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blogs by my Friends. Sky and Field: Is Happiness the Meaning of Life?
http://skyandfield.blogspot.com/2015/07/is-happiness-meaning-of-life.html
Short stories and thoughtful thoughts. Is Happiness the Meaning of Life? Agnostics are people who are generally undecided on what they believe in. Or at least, they are people who would not say they have committed themselves to one of the major world beliefs. In western culture this indecision seems to result in them inventing their own belief system, but in a vague kind of way. Unfortunately, there are issues with this belief. It's All About Me. What About The Third World. Would you be happy to say to a...

Sky and Field: The Vanity in My Novelty
http://skyandfield.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-vanity-in-my-novelty.html
Short stories and thoughtful thoughts. The Vanity in My Novelty. Each of us has many different characteristics, opinions, hobbies and interests. Stereotypes, or sometimes weaker but still present links, are formed in all of our minds about which of these naturally link together. For example, we aren't surprised when someone with a quiet personality turns out to be an avid reader, or when someone tall and muscular turns out to be a regular sports player. Well, in one sense, yes. Because it turns out t...

Sky and Field: The Writer
http://skyandfield.blogspot.com/p/who-writes-this-stuff.html
Short stories and thoughtful thoughts. My name is Ian. Let me start by saying that apart from personal experience, I have no authority or expertise on the subjects I write about. But I am a member of the human race, and apparently that is all that you need to hold an opinion. View my Blogger profile. An ENTP personality type. A University of Chester Graduate. A Small Group Leader. My face, I've been told, looks a bit angry when I'm trying to talk clearly about something I have a passion for.

Sky and Field: Offensive Grace
http://skyandfield.blogspot.com/2014/02/offensive-grace.html
Short stories and thoughtful thoughts. I had a chat with a colleague at work once about my faith. It was a good discussion, she was asking honest questions and I was trying to answer in kind, but by the end of the conversation she was confused and a little offended by the concept of grace. In the Christian faith grace is used to describe the way that God freely gave us the gift of eternal life with Him through Jesus. I have mentioned in another post. I have also mentioned in another post. Unfortunately, ...

Sky and Field: Short Story: The Husband Who Drank The Sea
http://skyandfield.blogspot.com/2014/07/short-story-husband-who-drank-sea.html
Short stories and thoughtful thoughts. Short Story: The Husband Who Drank The Sea. Once upon a time on these islands there was a man who loved his wife. Just like today, these islands were small, but there was one main island that the man and his wife lived on. But one day the wife got lost and found herself on a seperate island. She did not know how she came to be on that other island, so she did not know how to get back to her husband, and in her heart she missed him. Then he put his mouth in the water...

Sky and Field: August 2012
http://skyandfield.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Short stories and thoughtful thoughts. A Break From Blogging. I'm going to take a break from posting on Sky and Field for about four months. I have decided this because I am currently at a point where, after over two years of blogging on here, I am finding every upcoming deadline for a new post more of a hassle than an enjoyment. Perhaps my creativity has largely been spent. Or it might be that I only need to breathe for a bit, and then come back refreshed. Good Characters Make Bad Sequels. A sequel woul...

Sky and Field: Christianity and Homosexuality
http://skyandfield.blogspot.com/2014/07/christianity-and-homosexuality.html
Short stories and thoughtful thoughts. Christianity and Homosexuality is a big topic. This post, more so than many of my others, is for the benefit of myself; I am attempting to organise and summarise my own thoughts on the issue so far. I do not intend or expect that I will bring anything new to the debate. In any debate that has continued for so long between so many people, any contribution that begins with the words "It is simple." can probably be ignored. This issue is not simple. When the Bible incl...
