So there's this old Four Aces song, "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing." (I'm thinking it probably should be renamed/rewritten to "Love Is a Complicated Thing.") And there's that poem by Elizabeth...

Letter to the One Who's Only - The Contemplative

http://thecontemplative.weebly.com/it-is-thought/letter-to-the-one-whos-only

Letter to the One Who's Only. That voice that accused me in my dream last night, it said I had only one throne in my life. The voice wanted me to make room for another throne. I refused. No one can serve two masters. You said that, Jesus. And King David, many years before, cried out to You, "Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name" (Psalm 86:11). An undivided heart- a heart with one throne- one ruler, one object of worship, one exalted one. Are the exalted One. You and You. A surprisingly e...

If I'm honest, I will admit that reading her New Year's post made me squirm, brought me face-to-face again with the mindsets we humans have of living. Or at least we humans in this American culture of ours. "Be productive- ACCOMPLISH! We cry from impassioned hearts. And the whole of us dance this antsy dance if we cannot set ourselves to doing.something. And I'm bold enough to believe that just being His is effective. Jesus in John 15 tells us it's when we. That we are fruitful. What if, instead of makin...

He Upholds All Things by the Word of His Power. I just wrote this lengthy post that, as I was concluding, suddenly got eaten by a glitch when the website reloaded. See me frowning. All those words, so carefully crafted, carrying such depth of meaning- gone. Except the void fills up fast with questions- most of them made up of this one little word: Why? I was getting ready to walk into a void, but He told me what truths to fill it with:. His name is hallowed. The LORD’s commitment to me is that He i...

Hallelujah, Light My Way. The other day I found myself singing, "Hallelujah, light my way." And this is what I consequently found myself thinking about. Is a call to praise the LORD. Praising Him gives light to our way. It turns our eyes upon Him. There's a song we sang quite a bit a few years ago that starts off like this:. God, I look to You. I won't be overwhelmed. To see things like You do. God, I look to You. You're where my help comes from. You know just what to do. I will love You, Lord my strength.

Love Offering - The Contemplative

So there's this old Four Aces song, "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing." (I'm thinking it probably should be renamed/rewritten to "Love Is a Complicated Thing.") And there's that poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning: "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.". And of course, there's the ever-famous passage of Scripture,. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Because love isn't measured by the current c...

My Thinking Spot

Wednesday, October 23, 2013. The Cutest Six Month Old. It is hard to believe that Elias is already six months old. He has definitely kept us busy. He is such a joy and is really starting to develop his sense of humor. He is a very strong willed little guy and he certainly has a mind of his own. I love seeing what he likes and what he doesn't. My sister, Sarah, took some family pictures of us up in the canyon. They turned out wonderful! We love our little Elias so much! Thursday, July 11, 2013. I try once...

The Contemplative Carnivore

Thursday, October 9, 2014. I've planted my first ever fall garden this year! I absolutely adored my summer garden. Well, I should say I'm still adoring parts of it. Even now, the tomatoes and peppers are coming in like crazy. I can't believe I'm still processing bowls full for tomatoes and it's October! It will be all over when the first freeze comes, but until then I'm savoring every moment knowing I won't taste another fresh tomato until next June. Are you gardening this fall?
