The Copeland: God Can Be Funny

http://thecopeland.blogspot.com/2010/12/god-can-be-funny.html

God Can Be Funny. We live in a time where music and art are consistently moving away from grandeur and fluff to a place of perfect simplicity and - for the most part - lack of ego. This, however, does not seem to be the case for alt-rock pretty boys, 30 Seconds to Mars, whose newest video for their single, "Hurricane". Is one of the most absurd attempts at combining art and music period. There are some that - like The Examiner. Lashed out at MTV on his blog. By posting an explicit photo that MTV had forc...

The Copeland: July 2005

http://thecopeland.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html

What's left to ponder? In Washington DC there is a big issue at hand. That issue is stem cell research. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is standing behind legislation to expand federal financing for human embryonic stem cell research, stating that "it's not a matter of faith, it's a matter of science.". Former First Lady Nancy Reagan is supporting Frist and others in this because this research could help ease so much suffering worldwide in the future. Posted by Patrick Copeland @ 12:16 PM. The Copeland: August 2005

http://thecopeland.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html

It is only when you accept that you're dead. I've watched seven of the 10 parts of the Band of Brothers. Series. This is one of the most powerful and emotional series I've ever watched. The stories are biographical with the obvious hollywood-ized additions, but it is amazing. I feel like I've invested a great deal of my emotions in this series as it's so easy to find yourself a part of these mens' lives. I highly reccomend this for anyone who hasn't seen it. The Copeland: It's OK To Say That You Love Me

http://thecopeland.blogspot.com/2010/12/its-ok-to-say-that-you-love-me.html

It's OK To Say That You Love Me. Here we are. Yes, you and me. Me and you. The end of 2010 and with it brings this, the 500th blog post of The Copeland. And what better way to celebrate than with an end of the year list. The list (by way of reality) is a fair blend of true objectivity and un-adulterated subjectivity*. And so here are the top albums of 2010 (in no particular order):. The National: High Violet. The Black Keys - Brothers. Newly Nashville transplants, The Black Keys, keep creating great musi...

The Copeland: September 2005

http://thecopeland.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html

The University of Alabama faces off against Florida tomorrow in Tuscaloosa. Alabama is famous for playing to the level of their competition (see: last week v. Arkansas) so I'm hopeful that they will step up their game, use the home field/crowd advantage and beat the gators in traditional Crimson Tide fashion. I think Defense will either make or break this game for us. And Vanderbilt has a stirking chance to be 5-0 after facing MTSU. Their first appearance on ESPN 2 since 1999. How about that? In movies, ...

Life in the shallow end. Monday, January 17, 2011. 19 The Walkmen - Lisbon. 18 Superchunk - Majesty Shredding. 17 Stornoway - Beachcomber's Windowsill. 16 Menomena - Mines. This album felt like it was a long time coming and while it does not quite live up to the standard set by 2007's Friend and Foe. 15 Free Energy - Stuck On Nothing. 14 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beat the Devil's Tattoo. Life in the shallow end. Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Age really is just a number, but so is your blood pressure, and your salary and your grade in pre-algebra all those months/years/decades ago. Numbers matter. Numbers represent so many different things that represent so much of our lives. Phone numbers, street numbers, social security numbers. Age matters as well. Age dictates when you can drive, vote, drink, smoke, gamble, rent a car, retire. If so, what are they? Are they the same for everyone?

http://bloggycarl.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Life in the shallow end. Saturday, September 11, 2010. There is nothing better than hearing Brent Musberger call an Alabama football game. Ok, there are about 1.9 billion things better than that. In addition to those 1.9 billion another 737.9 billion things are better than hearing Musberger call a game involving any other team. All the more reason to go to games, not watch at home. Michigan = blah, but Denard Robinson is quite exciting.against Notre Dame. Ohio State = appears to be pretty good. This isn'...

Life in the shallow end. Sunday, April 3, 2011. This Trip, Part IX. Upon boarding, I had to ask the guy behind me the obvious question in the most obvious way possible: "This may seem like an obvious questions, but are you guys in a band? Of course I knew they were in a band, but it seemed a bit brusque to simply lead off with "What band are you in? From the desk of RC. The best deal over the internet. Earn $25-$35 per hour. Yes, I just managed to put four different punctuation marks in a row. I should probably just stop here (shut up, nobody is making you read this), but I won't. http://bloggycarl.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Life in the shallow end. Saturday, December 18, 2010. The past 350 days have been a fine year for new music releases, but its also been a pretty solid year for music releases that aren't new music per se. This would be the catch-all category that includes compilations, live albums, reissues and the like. Since these sorts of releases are very plentiful each year, this list isn't believed to necessary be exhaustive, but each of these listed are pretty great. Bruce Springsteen - The Promise. Simply put, th...

Life in the shallow end. Tuesday, October 12, 2010. At this moment, what is going through the mind of the dude smoking a cigarette on the balcony across the breezeway from this hotel room? 1 I love the beach, where visible buttcracks are much more generally accepted. 2 Tuesday is alright for fighting. 3 This cigarette is far more delicious than the one 5 minutes ago. 4 Would a Yosemite Sam or Tasmanian Devil tattoo better characterize my personality? 5 The music of Trapt and Disturbed really speaks to me.

http://bloggycarl.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Life in the shallow end. Friday, November 12, 2010. Tonight, a contender for the national championship of college football is playing a game. The game is being played on Friday night in Moscow in a college basketball arena. All of this is true.strange, but true. Say hello to the Kibbie Dome, home of the University of Idaho Vandals in Moscow, Idaho. Sorta cute, ain't it? Beyond 10 minutes into the game? Again, it is not Boise's fault that they are able to jump out to giant leads in many of their games, bu...

Life in the shallow end. Sunday, April 3, 2011. This Trip, Part VII. How do you know the other child’s “style of play”, much less their parent’s? The benefit of playing the role of “friend of the parents” is that none of it really matters, so long as the kids play, burn some energy and go home satisfied. From the desk of RC.
