The Country Experience

Saturday, July 4, 2009. We couldn't do a simple straight line. A lot of trench digging (no, not manually, thank goodness! And laying just under 300 feet of PVC pipe later, the work was completed and we had water again. Whoohoo! I hope everyone is enjoying their 4th of July festivities. We are taking it easy, lol. Links to this post. Tuesday, June 30, 2009. As in digging is required to find it? Ah, decisions, decisions. Links to this post. Tuesday, June 16, 2009. I wanna see the babies! He is so maternal,...

The Country Experience: Here Comes the Rain Again

http://thecountryexperience.blogspot.com/2009/05/here-comes-rain-again.html

Sunday, May 24, 2009. Here Comes the Rain Again. The sound of thunder started this Eurythmics song going through my head. It's appropriate. It's slightly vexing because the garden plants seem to be screaming, "Enough! And showing signs from overwatering, but I wouldn't mind if the rain washed away some of this pollen. We worked outside yesterday and both of us are sniffly. Correction: he's sniffly, I'm miserable. Neti pot, here I come! May 24, 2009 at 6:29 AM. My husband swears by the Neti Pot! Lythrum, ...

The Country Experience: Murder Most Fowl

http://thecountryexperience.blogspot.com/2009/05/murder-most-fowl.html

Monday, May 18, 2009. I'm not a happy camper. Something managed to get into our chicken coop and killed all 9 of our chickens. We had to bury 8 of them; there wasn't anything left of the ninth but feathers. We have seen where we can make improvements to the coop. I'd also put in a very high roost, as the low one was knocked down but the higher one wasn't high enough to keep them safe. All the time and energy and socializing we put into them- gone. It's hard to believe. So sorry about that.

The Country Experience: Properly Named Wildlife

http://thecountryexperience.blogspot.com/2009/05/properly-named-wildlife.html

Sunday, May 24, 2009. A few weeks ago I saw a woman who had stopped her car and was using a piece of cardboard box to push a turtle to the side of the road. Now I know a reason why that is a good idea. There is nothing to be afraid of. Was I ever startled when the turtle in one quick motion launched its long neck and tried to bite me! Fortunately I had only lifted it about 6 inches off the ground at this point so it didn't have far to fall when I dropped it in shock. WTH? I had no idea that some turtles ...

The Country Experience: January 2009

http://thecountryexperience.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 25, 2009. This is a picture of the branch that has been peeled of its bark by a squirrel. You can also see in the background that a woodpecker has taken a liking to this tree at some point in its lifetime, as well. It's an old tree and is probably on its way out according to the former owners, but it frustrates me that a squirrel may be hastening its demise. Bad squirrel! It's not like there isn't enough food around here. Grrrrr. Links to this post. Thursday, January 22, 2009. They were s...

The Country Estate | Observations on politics, news, culture and humor

Observations on politics, news, culture and humor. I was in Canada when the shooting happened, so I was able to avoid the sketchy early reporting. I did get back just in time to catch a lot. As for the overreactions from the agents of Leviathan, join me in vomiting on them all. First there was Rep. Bob Brady D-PA. Presumably some sort of vulgar mouth-breather who would just feel more important if he had a taxpayer-funded security detail behind him. Guess what, Bob? No one made you become one of the chief...
