Monday, November 3, 2014. Ok, costume time! Sometime in August, I'm pretty sure, we received a catalog full of Halloween costumes. Jane saw Elsa. The phenomenally popular Disney ice queen, on the front cover and her mind was made up. The costume was rather expensive, and I don't really like buying costumes anyway, so I set out to make one. It took longer than I'd like to admit, but turned out pretty well in the end. Thank goodness I had this drawing from Jane to guide me! Sunday, November 2, 2014. We let...

the cowan fam: November 2013

http://www.thecowanfam.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 12, 2013. When asked to make a sketch for her jack-o-lantern, Jane drew a face with one eye. Richard skillfully adapted that drawing into this awesome one-eyed monster. For Halloween, Ouisey got to wear Jane's old cow costume. So I decided to be her farmer. Jane mentioned being Cinderella, along with several other random ideas, so we went with that because we already had the outfit in her dress-up box. Richard donned his tux and went as her prince. the cowan fam: First day of "school" 2014

http://www.thecowanfam.blogspot.com/2014/08/first-day-of-school-2014.html

Tuesday, August 19, 2014. First day of "school" 2014. Jane and Ouisey had their first day of school today! Jane is in Pre-K4 and Ouisey just started Parents' Day Out. It is so fun to have them go on the same days to the same school. Here are some pics we took before we left this morning. Trying to get a "real" smile out of Jane. Jane was happy to discover that she had two girlfriends in her class. Here she is with sweet Lilian, who helped Jane feel at home. September 13, 2014 at 10:49 AM.

the cowan fam: July 2014

http://www.thecowanfam.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 11, 2014. Four and a half Jane. She still loves dress-up, princesses/fairies/ballerinas, nail polish, glitter, Lion King, and the color blue. Add to that list aquamarine, pink and purple. She recently told me blue was for boys. sad! Jane has also reached several big kid milestones this month. For starters, she finally got a bike! She is so thrilled. No more sharing tricycles with Ouisey. The training wheels are on tightly for now, but she already wants to take them off. Yikes! Lastly, she ha...

Tuesday, October 29, 2013. We didn't remember to take a "real" family picture that day, but I did eventually put Ouisey back in her gown and few weeks later to get a few portraits of her. She is the fourth Cowan grandchild to wear this beautiful gown. We are honored that she got to share it! Wednesday, October 16, 2013. To catch a smile. Tuesday, October 8, 2013. And even Richard, who had to be persuaded to even consider owning a cat, would admit that she won him over right away. And then there were two.

The Berry Flock: April 2014

http://theberryflock.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 26, 2014. Walking from Advent to Easter (Part III). As March wore on, we saw less of this. And more of this, prompting Ev to frequently squeal, "Signs of spring, Mama! Seeing those daffodils popping out all over the city towards the end of the month was such a hopeful portent of warm and beautiful things to come:. Playing (and snacking) at the Edwin Warner dirt park. Hanging out on our deck. Swinging at the playground. Squiggling toes in the mud. And admiring everything in bloom around us.

The Berry Flock: Memories of Snow...

http://theberryflock.blogspot.com/2015/04/memories-of-snow.html

Wednesday, April 29, 2015. As it is nearing May already, I figured I should do a little catching-up on the ol' blog. So here we go! Since my last post, we finished out a chilly winter, complete with a couple big (for Nashvegas) snows. We loved trekking to Percy Warner Park and sledding, hiking, and building snowmen:. Here, Doodle introduces James to munching icicles pulled off a bridge in the park. Yum. So thankful that we got to enjoy a little snow this winter! Posted by Emily Berry. The Art of Simple.

The Berry Flock: "The Life of Summer Falls Silent"

http://theberryflock.blogspot.com/2014/11/the-life-of-summer-falls-silent.html

Saturday, November 8, 2014. The Life of Summer Falls Silent". About a month ago, while browsing through Parnassus, our favorite local bookstore, Evelyn picked out a beautiful collection of poetry by Wendell Berry to give to her sweet daddy for his birthday. She was drawn to Terrapin. Now constantly there is the sound,. Quieter than rain,. Of the leaves falling. Under their loosening bright. Gold, the sycamore limbs. Now the only flowers are beeweed and aster, spray. Of their white and lavender. But as Se...

The Berry Flock: February 2015

http://theberryflock.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 4, 2015. New Year, New Things. Happy 2015, friends! We have eased into the new year around here, and can hardly believe that Valentine's Day is in the air already. Several moments worth noting have happened since my last post:. 1 James started walking in early December. He went from showing almost no interest or inclination to full-on, ready-to-run walking. And since then, he has shown little interest in stopping:). 4 We rang in the new year with party hats and monster faces:. 5 As I ...

The Berry Flock: August 2014

Wednesday, August 20, 2014. As summer winds down each year (did you hear that, Nashville weather? We kicked off our journey to Florida with a stop at Peach Park for ice cream and fried pies. And then spent the night in Dothan, where Ev and James paused for a brief hotel reading break. We concluded our drive the next day with a lunch stop at the Dockside Cafe, an old favorite in Port St. Joe, and then unloaded at our beach house. And then there was this. Posted by Emily Berry. Friday, February 20, 2015. I don't know what Aimee thought about it. I do have hints from one of her sisters that after she climbed it twice every summer for a number of years, she would collapse, privately, in her room from exhaustion. But I do know what she enjoyed the most about the trek. Aimee always wondered. I know I responded at least once, "Well, because no one scales a mountain for a couple handful of berries." But she did.
