What’s in the DNA? – Life in the Past Lane
https://lifeinthepastlane.org/2015/07/07/whats-in-the-dna
Life in the Past Lane. The Pursuit of Family History. What’s in the DNA? 8220;The greatest history book ever written is the one hidden in our DNA.” – Dr. Spencer Wells. I have long wanted to test my DNA, and that of my husbands, to see what clues and interesting discoveries we can learn. I may be the only family historian I know who hasn’t yet had their DNA tested by one of the several companies that offer the service. That changes now! Currently, the the main companies offering testing are 23andMe.
Sparkler Quilt WIP - Quiltineering
http://www.quiltineering.com/sparkler-quilt-wip
August 10, 2015. I’m continuing to work at putting a dent in my WIP pile, and this weekend I pulled out my Sparkler Quilt. I pieced this project 4 houses ago. I tend to remember my life’s details by which state/country I lived in, and this one was pieced in the summer heat of Mississippi in 2013. I’ve always loved this quilt. The pattern is by Lee Heinrich of Freshly Pieced. Hopefully I’ll have a finish to show you by the end of the week! What a fabulous quilt! What a lovely gradation! That is an awesome...

Snapshots Quilt Along: Half way! July 14, 2015. I’m just popping in today to give a quick progress report on my version of the Snapshots Quilt Along. We’re at the half way point! Just in case you’re not familiar with the Snapshots quilt: Click Here. It’s an awesome block of the month program hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Here’s blocks 1-6! I was a bit behind so I caught up with these three this month. Just in time for block 7 to come out tomorrow! Sorry,...
Life in Japan - Quiltineering
http://www.quiltineering.com/life-in-japan
July 21, 2015. 8230;and why my quilting time has lessened of late. This is definitely not a “poor me” post where I tell you about how I miss sewing, but in contrast it’s an “I’m so blessed” post because my new life in Japan is full of adventures and new friendships. Really, it’s a “hey, look at all this cool stuff I’ve been doing” post. That doesn’t mean I don’t rock the quilting t-shirt when I’m out on the town! We’re getting good at kneeling on the floor and eating with chopsticks! The beaches are gorg...
Patchwork Baby Quilt for Hunter - Quiltineering
http://www.quiltineering.com/patchwork-baby-quilt-for-hunter
Patchwork Baby Quilt for Hunter. June 24, 2015. Time in Japan has been flying by this past few weeks with little time to sew and even less time to blog. There have been many little events in my personal life the past few weeks but as I’m adjusting to my “new normal” I should be back into stitching! Of course, I’m back to blogging too. Once the pattern selection was determined, we starting picking colors. Jannette wanted a quilt that was primarily dark and light blue with pops of red throughout. I...Stitc...
Frock by Cotton + Steel – JemJam
https://jemjam.com/2015/02/04/frock-by-cotton-steel
8230;just making stuff. Frock by Cotton Steel. Cotton Steel is releasing a new substrate to their bank of fabrics–rayon! I was lucky to be able to sew up something with it before it hits the streets (this month). C S’s new line of rayon is called “Frock.”. I picked the gemstone print in navy, because, duh, NAVY. Anyway, let’s talk about me and what I made with Frock. When I saw the fabric, I knew that I needed to make a Myrtle dress. Really, the cowl, though…. Don’t be afraid of rayon! You can look at th...
A Personalized Periodic Table Quilt - Quiltineering
http://www.quiltineering.com/a-personalized-periodic-table-quilt
A Personalized Periodic Table Quilt. July 1, 2015. Mr W didn’t have a preference on color schemes so I started looking around the internet for some ideas. I found this FANTASTIC print at Missouri Star Quilt Company of beakers filled with various chemicals and used it as a springboard for my color selections. I wanted to make the quilt personalized for Mrs. W, and after thinking about how to do that, I realized that her initials happen to all be element symbols. Happy coincidence! The selvages were so fun!
Tackling My WIP Pile: Swoon Block - Quiltineering
http://www.quiltineering.com/tackling-my-wip-pile-swoon-block
Tackling My WIP Pile: Swoon Block. August 4, 2015. My WIP stack has been adding up so I’ve decided to start finishing up these projects. I’m embarrassed to say I have some blocks and quilt tops that have been sitting unloved for months to years. I had to look back at my previous blog post. To see when I had made this 24″ swoon block. Almost a year and a half ago – yikes! Better late than never, right? A pillow for Einstein! Going through and clearing up the WIP pile can be so satisfying! I bought the Swo...
NICU Quilt #3: Kiss Kiss - Quiltineering
http://www.quiltineering.com/nicu-quilt-3-kiss-kiss
NICU Quilt #3: Kiss Kiss. June 1, 2015. I’ve been keeping extra busy here in Japan by traveling, visiting with friends and studying the language. I am constantly learning and inspired by our host country’s kindness! Of course, there is still plenty of time for sewing so this week I’ve finished up my third quilt for my NICU quilt project. See this post for more info on my motivation: NICU project inspiration. I’m channeling my inner girly girl here! I made for my Mother-in-law. Oh how sweet is this quilt?
Preppy The Whale Quilt Top - Quiltineering
http://www.quiltineering.com/preppy-the-whale-quilt-top
Preppy The Whale Quilt Top. July 13, 2015. The cutest little pod of whales you ever did see…. Thank you, Elizabeth. For creating such fab patterns. I’m ready to make more! Pattern: Preppy the Whale. I love seeing the finished top for many reasons, but one of them is to put behind some of the little mistakes along the way. I apologize for the low quality photos, but I wanted to give you a little behind the scenes glimpse of this week’s quilty drama. So I told you in my WIP post. Kit Problem solved, right?

The Cozy Pumpkin - Carving Out Some Time for Crafts
Carving Out Some Time for Crafts. Year of the Stash. Farm Girl Vintage Quilt Progress. August 4, 2015. It’s a bit of the “same old same old” around here, but at the same time the wonderful thing about the Farm Girl Vintage quilt is that with every block being unique it never gets old. Each one keeps me on my toes deciding the best fabric combinations from the fabrics I have pre-chosen to work with. I [ …Continue Reading ]. Farm Girl Vintage Quilt. July 27, 2015. The Cozy Quill | Writing, like hot tea, warms the soul.
Writing, like hot tea, warms the soul. Writing Rituals: It’s Not All Hocus Pocus. July 8, 2016. The Sanderson sisters from “Hocus Pocus” were expertly hilarious witches. Photo credit: cinemablend.com. Let’s face it, we all wanted to be a Sanderson sister. The hair. The dresses. The magic. I mean, is there really a downside? Other than wanting to steal the lives of children for eternal youth, I mean. But that’s such a minor thing really. Wait, back up, writing rituals? July 4, 2016. It’s kind of wei...

The Cozy Quilter
Sunday, August 9, 2015. Last weekend, my husband and I took a long car trip to visit my daughter. I often fall asleep in the car on these long car rides so I brought Frank along to keep me awake! As you can see, I have finished almost all of the cross stitching at the bottom of the "window" and have started to do some of the backstitching. It is starting to look like a stained glass window rather than just a bunch of squares. It is always fun to see what everyone else is up to! Links to this post. Skye l...
