The Criminological Puzzle | Crime Rates are Sigmoid

http://www.thecriminologicalpuzzle.com/crime-is-sigmoid

Crime Rates are Sigmoid. Crime Rates are Sigmoid. If criminal propensity is normal, and sanctioning is asymmetric, then the laws of normal curve predict that crime rates should follow a sigmoid response curve with changes in propensity or sanctioning. This process has been examined in other areas of science, but has not been examined very thoroughly with crime rates. There are important implications of the sigmoid nature of crime rates that need to be addressed. Lessons from Germ Science.

http://www.thecriminologicalpuzzle.com/sanctioning-is-asymmetric

The process of sanctioning can be examined from a number of perspectives. It is helpful to begin with an examination of the nature of crime. Crimes tend to be behaviors that are seen to cause harm or potential harm to others. As the likelihood of harm increases, the likelihood of sanctioning increases as well. The Goals of Sanctioning. Sanctioning as a Random Process. Crime = f(Propensity, Sanctioning). Criminal Propensity = f(Limitless Variation). Criminal Propensity is Normal. Crime Rates are Sigmoid.

The Criminological Puzzle | Criminal Propensity is Normal

http://www.thecriminologicalpuzzle.com/criminal-propensity-and-the-central-limit-theorem

Criminal Propensity is Normal. Why might Criminal Propensity be Normally Distributed? Why Do Human Factors Seem To Be Normally Distributed? Although there are some reasons to question this idea, it would seem that with the limitless number of independent sources of variation in the factors that cause crime, the propensity for crime should follow something approximating a normal distribution. Crime = f(Propensity, Sanctioning). Criminal Propensity = f(Limitless Variation). Criminal Propensity is Normal.

The Criminological Puzzle | Criminal Propensity = f(Limitless Variation)

http://www.thecriminologicalpuzzle.com/the-many-factors-associated-with-crime

Criminal Propensity = f(Limitless Variation). Criminal Propensity has Unlimited Sources of Variation. Item #1: The Many Types of Crime. The large variation in the types of behaviors that are called “crimes” is an important piece of the criminological puzzle. Item #2: The Many Correlates of Crime. Item #3: Variation: Between Individuals and Within the Individual. Conclusion: Criminal Propensity is a Function of Limitless Sources of Variation. Crime = f(Propensity, Sanctioning).
