The Navigation site is situated in the village of Crumlin, Gwent, alongside the A467 road from Newbridge to Abertillery. The access road is from the B4251 (Kendon Hill) leading to Oakdale. The site is generally locked for security reasons. One day soon we hope to have a similar icon in place showing where the site is situated. This vision is a step closer now (June 2016). The pit wheel is being renovated and will, hopefully be placed at the entrance to the site in the next few months! JOIN US - MEMBERSHIP.

In Crumlin in the South Wales Valleys, there is a lovely, but derelict coal mine set in 20 acres of woodland. The river Ebbw runs through the site in one of the longest river culverts in Europe. A Valleys railway line runs beside the site and eventually it is hoped to have a railway station on the site. There are a number of unique and striking buildings -. 11 in total -. All grade 2 and 2* listed. They are said to be amongst the finest examples of mine buildings in Europe. The vision is threefold:.

Regrettably we are unable to answer any queries regarding family history or provide any information regarding men who worked in the mine. This Website was last updated on the 15th August 2015. The Navigation in Crumlin, Gwent, is an historic Welsh colliery site. The sinking of the mine shafts was begun in 1907 by Partridge, Jones and Company Ltd and the mine was in full production by 1911. The National Coal Board took over the Navigation at the time of Nationalisation in 1947 and the mine continued to produce coal until 1967.
