Dave's Train of Thoughts

Saturday, January 15, 2011. I'd like to see these movies as well. Almost seems like I need to learn new languages in order to appreciate new cinema. I'm up for it. Monday, January 10, 2011. Laws of Nature, Laws of Grace. Sometimes I jump to conclusions and predict that a movie watching experience will be transcendent, and that I will come to love the film in question beyond pretty much all others. Preposterous, correct? Well it didn't let me down with Wings of Desire (1987). Or The Seventh Seal (1957).

Dave's Train of Thoughts: Being White - Being Aboriginal

http://www.thedavestonelimited.blogspot.com/2010/12/ive-been-reading-this-somewhat.html

Tuesday, December 14, 2010. Being White - Being Aboriginal. I've been reading this somewhat interesting book entitled Being White. Recently, as I explore issues of race, culture, and identity, and what it really means to be white. So much of white identity and culture is assumed and rarely discussed beyond Stuff White People Like. My family was a hockey family. We played hockey, followed hockey, watched hockey. I learned to play hockey when I was seven. This is the largest aboriginal reserve in Canada.

Sunday, December 12, 2010. Thee Christmas Mix Tape (2010). If you listen carefully, you'll find Davey Von Stone as he journeys into the far reaches of outer space, with an angelic chorus, helping heal the mechanical heart of a lonely space drone. For real. The Magic Is Gone, Dear One (or, Why I Didn’t Like Prince Caspian). Also, there are some big ol’ SPOILERS ahead, so if you don’t want the SPOILERS to SPOIL your movie experience, don’t read the SPOILERS. Middle East = BAD GUYS. All the bad guys are Mediterranean-leaning-towards-Arabic looking, except for Caspian, who is for some reason Spanish. Bairstowaways: Wall-E

http://bairstowaway.blogspot.com/2008/07/wall-e.html

So Krista and I went to see Wall-E this weekend and we loved it. Loved. It I had every intention of writing a review but then I thought about something, so bear with me if this seems a little preachy. The question is, is this a message or a plot device? I was hoping for the former, I really was, because waste is a problem, especially here in good old North America. Yet in the credits there are ads for the new Wall-E video game. And one quick search for Wall-E over at toywiz.com give 40 results. Or even M...

Then, this past Friday, I was at Out of the Cold at WMB. There I was, just talking to Steph and Pam as my guitar rested in a corner by itself. Suddenly, and for no discernable reason, my guitar tipped and fell forward, shattering the headstock. Unwarrantied! I was still late though, so it counts. Are you kidding me?

Half a Truth is Better than No Politics. Friday, April 01, 2011. Three apartments down from me live a bunch of stoners. And they have a patio. When Nyssa and I had first moved in for the summer, they could often be heard out on the patio until the morning hours yelling about stuff and carrying on about Pink Floyd and how stoned they once got. (No word of a lie; I know it seems stereotypical, but it is true). Anyway, all this to say. wish me luck this summer. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A Song I Like.
