Monday, May 19, 2014. My computer is back from the shop, and I am FINALLY getting a chance to go through my several billion photographs from Cabo Verde. The Dilettante Traveler: May 2013

http://thedilettantetraveler.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 31, 2013. Jerome Creek Memorial Day Weekend 2013. This last weekend was my first visit to Jerome Creek after retiring as caretaker. It was glorious! I did just enough "work" (I helped with the birthday dinner) to help me feel at home, but mostly just enjoyed myself without a care in the world. I've posted some pictures on Picasa. With some, if I do say so myself, pretty hilarious shots of dogs. I love these dogs! Saturday, May 04, 2013. Ian and Spackle on Lower Bunker. Can it, now. Jerome Cre...

The Dilettante Traveler: April 2014

http://thedilettantetraveler.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 30, 2014. One-fingered on my phone. BA lounge, robot cappuccino, Schweppes Bitter Lemon, biscuits, savory dishes, view of planes. Yesterday in Lisbon was a good transition day- insane numbers of people, but the native language was still Portuguese. We stayed in a mod hotel in Baixa, close to the train, the center of town, restaurants, and two tile stores that we visited. Glasses of port back in the hotel finished us for the night. We slept, arose, and got back on a plane. Weve been here ...

The Dilettante Traveler: Things Fall Apart

http://thedilettantetraveler.blogspot.com/2014/04/things-fall-apart.html

Saturday, April 26, 2014. A seminal novel by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe; also, what happens to even moderately UNsedentary, youngish middle-aged Americans, when they decide to take a hiking vacation in a tropical mountain range. Here is my list of woes:. My right ankle is sore and no longer bending in all the ways an ankle should bend, which, for our last two days here, is seriously limiting the hikes we can do, which in turn is causing me emotional distress. But the compensations are your family, and...

Wednesday, December 05, 2012. Conversation at Immigration, Atlanta. Ian and I approach the counter together. He has filled out our family customs form on the plane from Lima. Agent: Are you family? Us: Yes. We nod, and hand over our passports. Me: Hand him the form, murmured, at Ian. Ian: Its for customs. Murmured as well, slightly sarcastically. Agent: No, shes right, I want to see that too. Agent: How long have you been gone? Agent, chuckling, to Ian: Youd better let her take over from here! A “s...

The hotel is located not far from the bus stop, but with our bags we opted to take a tuk-tuk anyway. After checking in, we trudged up the giant staircase to the spacious halls of the second floor. Our corner room had windows over looking the river, plenty of space, and a hot shower. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Descriptions, recommendations, and reviews about my travels. All information is based on experience, and all opinions are my own. Friday, May 18, 2007. So much has been written about the temples of Angkor Wat. That I’m not going to go into too much detail about everything we did. Instead, I’ll focus on some of our highlights and favorites. We did this steep climb, too! It’s pretty scary, but worth it to see what’s up there. We made it. Great views of the treetops! That is definitely southeast Asia.

I Thought I Was Done With This . . . Wednesday, August 31, 2011. In celebration of my decision to just say no to poop pills, I made myself a giant latte this morning, my usual—split quad grande with whole milk—after days and days of being careful about the caffeine/lactose ratio (the combo can be quite the roto rooter). I had been having a mere 1 shot americano or some such thing, just enough to stave off withdrawal headaches on top of everything else. Um, yeah. Guts not ready for the big time. I did a q...

I'm in Idaho right now and, true to form, Spackle has again been somewhat mirroring my own medical issues—in this case the procedure even had the same name. The Dilettante's Dilemma. Delight is the heart of the dilettante. Giving One To the Team. August 14, 2015. I want to provide a rationale for paying some attention to how one looks to others.
