Petticoat Government: Yemen Fortnight
http://petticoatgovernment.blogspot.com/2015/06/yemen-fortnight.html
Re: books, homeschooling and homemaking issues, political issues worldwide, archaeology, and religion. Wednesday, June 17, 2015. We are finished with our fortnight of studying Yemen. Among other things, we did the following to learn about life there:. Ate mangoes, saltah (national dish of Yemen, eaten with a condiment made of ground fenugreek), honey, dates, yogurt, cardamom rice, etc. Listened to Yemeni music on YouTube. Bought some frankincense incense sticks and burned part of one. Learned about socia...

Nails and Sawdust: April 2015
http://isserfiq.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
And some other stuff too. Sunday, April 19, 2015. Ten days ago the Crocuses and Reticule Irises were just sprouting. A bit of welcome color. Then we got a Grackle invasion. Like something out of a Hitchcock movie. Then we got hit with three inches of wet sloppy snow, that stuck around for about three days. After that cleared out I managed to remove about 5 wheelbarrows full of road sand from the lawn using the leaf blower. And used the sand to fill out the low wet spots behind the barn. As according to t...

Petticoat Government: Welcome to summer 2015!
http://petticoatgovernment.blogspot.com/2015/06/welcome-to-summer-2015.html
Re: books, homeschooling and homemaking issues, political issues worldwide, archaeology, and religion. Sunday, June 7, 2015. Welcome to summer 2015! The girls' school is out, so we're not doing "normal school" until the middle of August. The summer school curriculum is our usual (third summer now) of learning all about countries plus math and maybe religion or music a couple days each week. These are the countries we are learning about this summer:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Out In Left Field.

Petticoat Government: Happy Mother's Day!
http://petticoatgovernment.blogspot.com/2015/05/happy-mothers-day.html
Re: books, homeschooling and homemaking issues, political issues worldwide, archaeology, and religion. Saturday, May 9, 2015. Love it, hate it, tomorrow is still a good day to remember that no matter how problematic our family relationships might sometimes be, we owe our lives to our mothers. If my mom knew of this blog's existence, I'd wish her a happy Mother's Day in this post. Instead, I'll just call her after church and talk for a while. I think she'd prefer that anyhow. How did Jesus live? Subscribe...

Nails and Sawdust: September 2014
http://isserfiq.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
And some other stuff too. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Picked the last of the tomatoes. Not much growing left in them this year, so took them all and cut down the plants. Bumble bees are drunk on sugar from the sunflowers. Sleeping it off right on the flower. Parsley has finally got bushy after looking sorry most of the summer. Got a good bit of my dead fall and garden trimmings brush pile taken care of. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Sunday, September 28, 2014. Yes, we do chainsaws and trees too. We took ...

Nails and Sawdust: July 2014
http://isserfiq.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
And some other stuff too. Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Tomato Cankers, Hornworms and Green Aphids. Sad state of affairs in the veggie department. Figured out why the Early Girl tomatoes were ripening before maturing. Question is how do we prevent the cankers? Any one have a remedy? Hornworms have invaded my tomato plants as well. Picked eighteen of them off the plants today. They are only half inch long but will grow to 3 inches and as fat as your finger in a couple of weeks time devastating the plants. Not s...

Liberty At All Costs: A Quilter's Record
http://libertyatallcosts.blogspot.com/p/quilters-record.html
Liberty At All Costs. I began quilting a few years ago. It is an interesting craft that requires a fair amount of precision and attention to detail. Also, it gives me something productive to do instead of simply letting my brain rot while watching TV. Details from Garrett's quilt. Aurora's Quilt - Click to Embiggen. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Capt Scott D. Ketchie. Missing Since 9 APR 1972. Shot down over Laos. I am humbled to have the opportunity to wear Capt. Ketchie's name on my POW/MIA bracelet.

I have a longer post.or an extensive series of shorter posts.in mind to talk about some recent health issues that I have been dealing with. I hope it turns out well. In the meantime, this is me from the fall of 2010. A group of friends went camping. We also did a kayak run down the Muskegon River. Posted on : 5/01/2013 07:00:00 AM By : Dann. Critical Mastiff: When Hubris and Poverty Mix
http://criticalmastiff.blogspot.com/2013/05/when-hubris-and-poverty-mix.html
When an idea grabs hold and won't let go. When Hubris and Poverty Mix. I have just read a recent journal article by the brilliant scholar Peter Turchin. In Turchin's research, he finds that oversupply of elites has the strongest association with societal violence. This is easy to understand when one looks at places like the Philippines, in which politicians routinely employ armed militias to attack competitors (a horrifying example was the Maguindanao Massacre. Proposed that the growth of an intellectual...
