Who is The Diwan Foundation. Was created by Muslim alumni of Cornell University. In response to the need for coordinated Muslim life on campus. Diwan seeks to enhance the quality of life for self-identifying Muslims and all Cornellians, by providing resources, implementing programs, and developing opportunities for students.

Muslim alumni can easily recall their Ramadans at Cornell. Despite an unrelenting academic pace, opening the fast with others who had shared in the day's sacrifice was a welcomed break. We were all away from our families and favorite home cooked foods. Yet, together a sense of community prevailed. The first call for alumni to sponsor iftaars on campus went out during Ramadan 2008. The message to students was clear: "While you are away from home for a higher purpose, your alumni family is with you. When you leave Cornell to serve the world, remember those who follow you.". Approximately 50% of iftaars were sponsored that year. Since then, the iftaar sponsorship campaign has become an annual tradition, with the number of nights sponsored as well as alumni participating growing every year.
