I’m a big fan of making training fun and as such I always recommend the liberal use of rewards, for dogs AND their humans. But be warned: rewards can be withheld as well as given, so be prepared to do the work, or forfeit your evening glass of wine! Puppy intro session: 1.5 hours; follow-on sessions 1 hr each. Adult dog training: 2 hr initial session; follow-on sessions 1 hr each. Behaviour problems: 2.5 hr initial session; follow-on sessions 1.5 hrs each. A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.

I’m talking about detective work. In order to figure out why a dog is behaving in a certain way, it’s almost essential to understand the root cause. This is not always easy.
